Smile Cracker Barrel parking, not

Amazing how often cars are parked in the RV spots. This photo is from Stevensville, MD this morning. There was a class A with toad that was forced to to take up a bunch of car spots.

Went on the web to upload the photo.

Don’t know why the app didn’t offer the option to upload a photo.

It is frustrating to those of us with long vehicles, but those spaces are open for anybody to use. You hope those spots are only used by normal vehicles in an overflow situation, but the truth is, most folks that don't have RVs, don't think that way. What saves most of these long spots is that they are usually farthest away and most folks will never walk farther than they have to.
It's like the end lanes at most gas stations that have both diesel and gas pumps. I can only use those two lanes, and I usually have to wait for a gas vehicle to leave, even though other gas only lanes are open. It aggravates me, but probably never occurs to the other folks who have never owned a diesel.
But I find the older I get, the less these type of trivialities bother me.

They do the same at boat ramps, annoys me to no end when I have to park 100yds away in a field because there's a car parked illegally in a trailer spot. It's illegal to park in trailer spots at the boat ramp, not sure about RV spots.

Last year we were driving across country and stopped at a cracker barrel. We parked in the rv area and when we came out there was a big rig parked directly in front of us. He was unloading supplies for the restaurant. We were towing our car so no backing up. We asked how long he would be and the restaurant manager said an hour.....after she walked inside he came over and told us that just as soon as he got the cold stuff unloaded he would back up some so we could pull out. Nice guy. So that's what happened. Whoever designed their parking configuration was an idiot.Click image for larger version

We have used Cracker Barrel as well and have seen the same problem. When this happens and we are overnighting I will park along the grass, in back if possible, remain in the RV and wait. A spot will open and voila. I am retired and got time.
When a person comes to get in, I pull up close, not to block but close so hopefully they may think next time.

I do realize you are were in Maryland, so it’s not surprising to you and others that each of those vehicles has Maryland plates. The thing is, though, even if you were in Idaho, the vehicles occupying those spaces would have been from Maryland. It’s the truth!

Parking and fuel access was not much of an issue back in the day with a PUP, smaller TT or MH. We've done it to ourselves. I have yet to use any parking lot for an overnight. All about choices.

I had this happen at a Steak and Shake in Springfield Mo. Squeezed into the one rv spot left. When we came out there were employees in the cars taking a break. We don’t stop there any more even without the rv.

Very irritating situation. I would say more often than not it's employees parking there.

Was there any signage stating those spaces are reserved for RVs? Not that anybody in a car would care or not. Just wondering.

Similar situation at the gas pumps for diesel. Seems the small gasoline cars just cannot help pulling up to one of the two diesel pumps -even when there are open pumps all over the place that do not have diesel. Then they leave their car there, go in, use the bathroom, shop for a while and come out with 58 snacks which they have to arrange before pulling out of the way. Some will even come our and wash their windshield before pulling away. really annoying, but I know these are the most important people in the world because they do not even care in the least.

I was at a CB in Nampa, Idaho recently. The pull through RV spots are clearly marked. But since the spaces are on private property, violations are not enforceable by any authority. Compliance is by the "honor system", a long lost trait in most humans.

On travel days, we almost always eat at truck stop restaurants, just to avoid parking frustrations.
Most Cracker Barrels we have been to have RV parking, but the slots are too short to fit our RV, and the rest of the lot is not made for easy navigation for larger rigs.
So if we really want to eat at a particular restaurant not associated with a truck stop, we just wait until we are at our destination and unhooked. Then, no problems
And as far as people being inconsiderate, we see as many, or more, RVers being inconsiderate as non-RV folks.

I'm not saying it wouldn't happen in Western Maryland, but I would like to think we're more considerate out here than in the Baltimore/DC area. Go west across Sidling Mountain and things are a bit different. Go west across Big Savage and it's A LOT different! [emoji41]
I go past our Cracker Barrel almost every day. I'll have to take notice now of who does and who doesn't park in the RV spots.

Have seen this at Cracker Barrels for the past 10-15 years nothing new. Found out it was usually employees that were parking in the RV spaces. Does no good to complain about it.

One thing to consider is that restaurants often have busy periods around traditional meal times. Stands to reason that parking lots are going to fill up during those times.

When traveling I don't have to keep a strict schedule so I try to stop for a meal (when i do eat out) during the off hours.

I also try to time my travel through large cities during times that don't coincide with normal Rush Hour. May still be heavy traffic but at least it moves after all the people get to work or are home for the evening.

As for fuel stops, unless the owner puts up signs on the outside pumps stating "TRUCK/RV ONLY" I don't get upset. I just wait. The ones that get my blood pressure up are the ones that pull up to the first pump, blocking the entire lane which may have up to three pumps, and after filling they go inside to do some shopping. At one place in Wyoming last year I pulled around some gal's car and then turned in to the last pump. I was close enough that the hose reached my tank fill but my trailer still hung out blocking her. Even better, another RV pulled in directly behind her. She had to wait until I was done. Looking back, maybe I should have gone in to do some shopping too but then the RV behind her would suffer.

Unless you complain to the manager and let them know you will be sharing this with "Corporate" though their online customer service (Contact Us) page.
