Daily Driver ?

Just curious to how many people use their tow vehicles as daily drivers ? Before moving to NC from CA I used to ride a motorcycle to work it averaged about 40 MPG and I let my 2015 Ram 2500 with the Cummins sit in the garage and drive it weekends and for camping trips.

I sold the MC when I moved here to NC and started driving the truck to work for the last year it did pretty good and I averaged 17-18 MPG I racked up about 13K for the year on the truck then as luck would have it my Sister gifted me a 2012 Mazda 3 and I started driving that to work since December 2017 and it gets about 37MPG for the round trip drive to work of 45 miles.

I have never driven a vehicle that gets that kind of mileage so I’m almost in disbelieve when I go to fill it up and I can go almost 500 miles on a 14 gallon tank of gas for a little over $30.00 plus regular gas here in NC is running about .30 cents cheaper then diesel at $2.79.

So now the RAM is sitting at 24K on the odometer and is back to weekends and camping trip duty.

My 2008, 2500 Ram Mega Cab 6.7L Cummins is my daily drive when I drive. My wife's vehicle a 2011, VW TDI is here daily drive when she drives anywhere. If we go some where together it is a coin flip to see which vehicle we take. They both have there +/- for driving.

My Wife drives a 2014 Ford Explorer so we have that in the mix so now it all depends what kind of trip we are taking and take the appropriate vehicle it is nice having different choices.

My F-250 sits at the house during the week and I usually drive it on the weekend. I got my wife's old Honda Civic when she upgraded to a new Chevy Equinox. Love putting $20 in the tank of that Honda and driving for almost 2 weeks. Got a 50 mile round trip everyday so saving a lot of wear and tear on my truck.

Wife and I used to car pool (Ford Edge) to work until they relocated my office. Now my TV has become a DD. I recently bought a used Harley, so drive that when I can.

My 3/4 ton Chevy diesel takes me back and forth to work every day (80 mile round trip). I just couldn't financially justify buying another car just for commuting.

My wife uses our '12 Ram Dually to go to work each day and normal errands as I live out in the boonies during the work week and go home on the weekends. I use the '05 Highlander as my "commuting" vehicle as the fuel cost to drive the Ram would be too much.

So yes, we use our tow vehicle as a daily driver.

I hear that. Luckily her Honda was paid for and was worth nothing on trade. I said I just found my new daily driver!

We use my wife's daily driver as our TV, 2011 Durango. I tend to alternate between 2003 Mustang GT and 2010 Sebring convertible. At some point I'll talk myself into getting a half ton for a TV; but for now, with our daughter still living at home with her own car - that's just too many vehicles clogging up the driveway.

2017 Ram 2500 CTD - daily driver, although as I’m retired, not much in the way of miles. DW has a 2010 Suzuki Swift with over 100k on it which we use for running around/errands etc. Gets about a gagillion miles to the gallon and owes us nothing.

Currently tow with my 2016 ecoboost f150 and put 15-20k on it as a daily driver a year.

Average 15 mpg ( I drive fast and on hills)

Looking back I would have waited and purchased a 17 f350 dually, it’s not that much more money (The 150 is very well optioned) The reason I didn’t was because of ride quality and maint costs. But we not have a lease program at the car dealer hat I work at the can get me a base model civic or accord lease for about $ 100 a month. So I would have gotten the lease to daily.

The trucks I tow with are my daily driver.
My previous one was a 2007 Avalanche that I used for towing for over 10 years
My current daily driver truck is a 2014 F150 4x4 3.5 Ecoboost CC SB, with the Max Tow Package. It has a payload capacity over 1800lbs and towing capacity over 11,000lbs.

Both could get 20mpg on freeways.

Have a work vehicle, so the truck only tows. Think it just clocked 8K on the odometer last weekend.

Like bshort, I’m fortunate to have a company vehicle so my TV, a 2015 Chevy 2500 HD sits and only moves to tow the TT. It has been parked since mid October and I only clocked 7700 miles in 2017, 90% towing.
Any thoughts on leaving a 6.0 gasser parked for months ata time. It is garaged.
