Dash cam

Do any of you use a dash cam? Any recommendations on which ones you prefer? I am considering purchasing one after nearly being wrecked in Dallas traffic on Tuesday. Some young kid did not want to let me change lanes in stop & go traffic to get to my exit, semi next to me held him up so I could merge in front of him, apparently the kid didn't like it and waited till traffic was moving at 45 mph and swooped in front of me and locked up his brakes, I just about creamed him, he did this 2 more times and sped off. I brakes so hard that it actually broke the mounts on my kitchen window shade. I had grandkids & wife in the truck! Stupid stupid kid put everyone's life in danger for no reason. Sorry that I got off on a rant, but I'm still pretty steamed.

I have also given so thought to a dash cam now that the price has come down I can't answer your question but feel like you do

I actually just got one yesterday via Amazon.
KDLinks X1 Car Camcorder. A bit pricey, and probably overkill, but got good reviews. I figure, cheap insurance for the price.
Will also now allow me to prove that I've seen aliens, flying pigs, and pedestrians crossing an interstate in rush hour traffic.

For the aliens & flying pigs I'd probably have to get a go pro camera, I usually don't see those until set up and enjoying a few adult beverages.

At the time of occurrence, I couldn't figure out if it was a flying pig that "looked" like an alien ship, or an alien ship that "looked" like a flying pig!
Pedestrian was real...almost hit the SOB, I-495 around Washington, DC.
Then, again, it might have been a politician, so no loss.

I've been using dash cams for 3 years now. The one I have now has two cameras. One facing forward and one in the rear window. It records both. It also accepts a 32 gig card. I've caught some very interesting stuff on it. It comes on when I start the truck. Here where I live it pays to have one.

Could you name it, please, so we can do some research to see if we could use it, too?

I'll look and see if it has a name on it. I've had it for awhile but I think I got it on Amazon.

I have the Pilot from Walmart for about $40. Works great. First bought the more expensive one at Walmart but was junk. Had to get my own micro chip. Have been using it for over four months without an problem.

I think the main point, whether expensive or inexpensive, is just to invest in one. I put it off for too long. But with all the crazies out there, texting, reading, sleeping, phoning, it's almost a necessity now to prove you were in the right.
May bite you if your in the wrong, but the good offsets the bad.

I've got a Ojocam Pro 2 in both of my vehicles and am happy with them and the picture is good. I hardwired them in to look tidy and they work when the key is turned on.

Another good point is that it's hardly noticeable from the outside unless you are looking for it hiding behind the rear view mirror.

I have been using dash cams now for over six years. The best are made by a company called RoadHawk. I have the RH-2 in one of my vehicles - this records images from both the inside and outside the vehicle simultaneously. It plots everything on GPS so when played back it shows this on a google map. Also records shocks imparted on the vehicle (harsh braking, heavy acceleration, sudden turns, impacts, etc.), vehicle speed, direction and audio in the vehicle (can be switched off). They now have models that are also in HD. Yes, they are a little more expensive but in al the years I have used them I have never had any problems with the operation of these cameras.

I looked on the cameras and could not find any indication as to manufacture or model number. I even ran through the menu and couldn't find anything. Pretty sure it's Chinese though Here's some pics of it, May help.Click image for larger version

I have been using the 4Sight [or 4Site] unit for 4 years and really happy with it. All the bells and whistles of much more expensive dash cams. Moving Google map [with opt antenna], mph, 3 axis G-meter, 32 Gb data card, front and rear recording at the same time, sound, etc. I paid $130 for the cam and $45 for the optional gps antenna. Bought them on Amazon. Don't know what the price is now.

I have two Lukas Dash cams. On has built in wifi so I can watch everything on my phone from the cam (life or recordings). The other doesn't have wifi but has built in Lane Departure (warns you about drifting into the other lane), Crash Avoidance (warns you if a car is slowing down abruptly in front of you) and when stopped at a light or stop sign behind a car (or in traffic) and the car in front of you starts to move, it makes a little beep to alert you that traffic is moving.

They also record if an impact happens as well as if it detects motion in front or behind you (when the vehicle is off).

Fantastic cams but you are talking high $300s to mid $400s for them (duals 1080p resolutions).
