However, if you use antifreeze, it can be a whole nother matter. If you dump it at a park that has its own system the antifreeze can poison it and cost the owner a small fortune to flush out, so it'll have to be disposed of properly just like when you change the antifreeze in you engine.
Car antifreeze =/= RV antifreeze.

It's perfectly safe to pour it into a regular RV dump station. I do it every single year.

Using poisonous antifreeze in your camper is not recommended. RV/Marine antifreeze is not poisonous.

If you think winterizing a camper is a PITA note boat engines have the same issues especially those with only raw water systems. Same non-poisonous antifreeze is used to fill the engine block.

When I left ID. Early Dec, it was mid teens. Knowing that the Temps would likely be below freezing for several days,, I made sure all tanks were completely empty of ALL fluids. Upon arrival I simply put the plug in the water heater and filled up the tank. No issues.

Do you ever drink the water?
Compressed air purge only. Sanitize in Spring. Always drink the water. Unless there is a compelling reason not to. I hate the wastefulness of bottled water. All those water bottles are a blight. We are being buried in plastic waste. This stuff is hardly even recycled anymore. My trash hauler that used to give me a break on bill for recycling, now charges extra for it. Because China won't buy it anymore.

NJKris it would be my guess that folks that travel south during the winter and carry water with them are not talking about the small 16 oz. bottles of water but some kind of other re-usable containers probably gallon size at least. My DW and I always take "jugs" of water from our home faucet every camping trip, usually 5-6 gallons which we use to fill our individual water bottles on bike rides and hikes, and also to make coffee with.

During our Florida trip last February we took a few more jugs knowing we would be using the water to flush the toilet, which works great, and to wash up and brush our teeth. Our son drinks Aloe vera Juice and it comes in heavy plastic one-gallon jugs and that's what we carry our water in. We too can't be bothered with the little plastic water bottles and the $.05 deposit on them in New York State.

Thanks for all of your answers! My husband reassured me that he could flush the antifreeze out of the systems into our grey tanks or definitely into the sewer without making the mess he makes in the yard! LOL. Safe travels, ya'll.

You couldn't use it to winterize if it was.

Automotive antifreeze IS TOXIC and should NEVER BE USED to winterize a R/V.

Read the label on the bottle. NOT intended for Human consumption. It is much less toxic than automotive anti-freeze, but still toxic in larger quantities.
If ingested, contact the poison control center immediately.

Oh, stop fear mongering!

I'm not advocating drinking it but should ingestion happen, you aren't likely to have to be hauled to the ER.

Read the MSDS and see for yourself.

Only caution or warning on the jug in my garage is DO NOT ADD TO FUEL

Dangerous? Better safe than sorry. Here's the SDS for distilled water. And the SDS for sand.

"First aid" measures are so similar as to be boiler plate.

Looks suspiciously like this dangerous substance.

Just like what I buy in the liquor store.

What is the link between Dihydrogen Monoxide and gun violence?

The incidence of gun violence seems to be rising at an alarming rate. A recent stunning revelation is that in every single instance of violence involving guns, both in the U.S. and internationally, Dihydrogen Monoxide was involved. In fact, DHMO is often very available to those who would do harm to others. Meanwhile, apparently no efforts have been made to limit the availability of this potentially dangerous chemical compound.

I've heard that RV antifreeze is more toxic in California than other states. I think there is actually a label on my trailer itself that says it causes cancer, but only in California.

EVERYTHING sold in CA will cause cancer it appears.

I think mfrs just put "Prop 95" warnings on everything they make in, or ship to, CA just to make sure all bases are covered.
