I don't think it does any longer. My tractors require ultra low sulfer diesel and new tier 4 engines have dpfs.
It has a red dye and does not have road tax added to it, that's the only difference I know of currently.

to those that dont know, off road diesel is dyed and very expensive to the person they (govt) find operating it on road. the dye shows up under some light they have. you may have only used a couple gallons in an emergency, but i doubt they will believe you.

I also use Gas Buddy to find the cheapest gas or diesel in my area then I only buy from them. Gas Buddy implore its users to only buy from the lowest priced gas stations and say that if enough folks do this it should/will force prices down.

We are in Bakersfield CA right now and there are 2 gas stations about a mile apart, one has diesel at 3.92 and the other at 4.69 is the guy selling at 4.69 mental or what.....no enough people must be buying his diesel to keep him happy, its these people who help keep the prices high.

just my 3 pence worth.

We carried diesel and gasolines in bulk on tankers, shiploads of 300,000 barrels at a time, (42 gallons in a Marine barrel) also large quanities of heating oil in the August to May period. Someone noted the price went down for road diesel in May and spiraled again in September. Gasoline is effected by the ethynol season required by the Fed. Diesel is affected by the home heating oil season by the consumer. Oils all very similar below gasoline when cracking crude, Market spoils the price.

Those ez on/off fuel stops usually are more $$ ...but ..why is diesel still over $4 now...when reg un-leaded gas is at $3.30-$3.60 ??

ULSD (Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel) was one of the reasons diesel went up initially. Its not just that it has to be refined more, sulphur has BTU content. The BTUs had to be added and that is more money.

Shutting down refineries, European demand, less drilling in the outer continental shelf, no new Canadian crude all adds up.

Southeast Texas today, diesel, the absolute lowest price, $3.65 per gallon.
Regular unleaded $2.95, saw morning news and they listed it at $2.89, but in far south suburbs. They use gas buddy and when I lasted looked gas buddy does not list the lowest diesel prices because the lowest prices are found at small local food store pumps that would be hard to get in and out with a semi or RV. I try to fillup without my RV to get the lowest price.

I also use an additive and I think it helps with mileage.

If you have a Duramax, Stanadyne is one of the best fuel additives IMO to use...I use it at every refill.

My gm heavy tech says that additive is not needed per gm spec. But I use it just for a little extra lubercation!

FYI...Stanadyne is the only diesel additive that is approved by GM but they do make note that it's not necessary BUT I do use to help keep injectors clean, cleanup water in fuel and during winter time to assist in fuel gelling.

Exxon-mobile CEO . His statement (lie) was we import oil to be refined
Diesel is sent to Europe because they use so much more , and they have a higher profit over there
In return we are supply / demand in the states

Haven't read his quote but that is mostly true.

Due to the way the US runs its refineries, our refineries run closer to their rated capacity than European ones do. What is more obtuse is that because US demand overall has declined, it is cheaper for an international company to refine oil here for the European market (Euro/dollar).

winter time to assist in fuel gelling.

dont need any assistance to gel fuel

around here we have a large refinery, shell oil, and they just sunk a stink pot full of money expanding it. we have a few smaller ones, valero and clark oil. amoco here just tore down in the last couple years about 50 to 100 tanks. dont know the reasoning behind it especially since there hasnt been a refinery built in the us since the early/mid 70's. perhaps to keep prices up with no supply but an increased or steady demand? nah.... they wouldnt do that
