Diesel doesn’t have anything to do with the cost of a barrel of crude oil.

Diesel fuel is made from a mixture of Hydrocarbons. It is a byproduct of crude oil.

Diesel is made of 75% Saturated Hydrocarbons. 25% Aromatic Hydrocarbons.

Crude oil is made of 84% Carbon. 14% Hydrogen. 1-3% Sulfur. Less than 1% Nitrogen.

I don’t see any resemblance. Do you?

Diesel fuel is one of the products created from crude oil. During the refining process, the viscous dark thick crude oil is turned into the much lighter diesel fuel. We must first understand what crude oil is and then how petroleum diesel fuel is produced. There are methods to creating diesel fuel other than the traditional method.

That's what I found by Googling. Seems it is directly related to crude oil.

I understand fewer gallons of diesel can be refined from a barrel of oil than gasoline, but they're both refined from oil.

I guess my google is wrong and yours is right.

All good.

Either way it’s highway robbery what they charge for it...

Unfortunately the people that make the most profit off crude oil is people that don't ever touch the oil. Wall Street. If Wall Street had to physically own the oil the crude oil would be a lot cheaper. The way to make crude oil cheaper is bring back the 25% oil depleation allowance

DH has been trying to research cetane (?) .... he has a 1996 diesel & is always looking for a higher number. Researching he says that Chevron & BP seemed to have the highest but he still has to use an additive to keep that motor running well

You googled chemical makeup. Google where it comes from gives you crude oil.

That uses tax dollars to subsidize the oil companies, pay up front or pay at tax time.

Diesel Fuel Prices

We try to apply a few strategies detouring off toll roads for a leg of our travels to fuel up, using apps on our phone to find the lowest prices and apps for particular truck stops with discounts. Are we missing anything here?

Truckstops and low prices don’t seem to go together

Where truckstops lack in low prices, they make up for is ease of access for diesel users.

Ok, you all are scaring me. We traded TV "up" to Ram 2500 diesel, mostly for the torque but also for potential TT to fiver. We pull Vibe268, or at least we will come spring.

If your setup is anything like mine, be prepared to spend anywhere from $0.25 - $0.30 per mile for fuel while towing.

Prices in Alberta have risen to $1.20 - $1.30 per liter ($3.63 US - $3.93 US per US gal), roughly half of that is taxes now.
Fuel surcharge on shipping/trucking and price increases on everything makes life un-affordable for those on a fixed income.

$3.49 in PA. We’re right behind CA when it comes to fuel taxes
