Yes! Liz drives our rig everywhere, probably better than me. Ok, I know she's a better driver than I am She has driven everything we have ever owned. I think she loves the looks she gets at truck stops when she jumps out of the driver seat. She's tiny
Problem is, she is a much better navigator than I am. Thank goodness for Google maps now saving me from 'the look' I used to get as we drove past our exit.
The one thing she will not do, is drive while backing. I have no clue why. I know she would rock that also. She is excellent at giving instructions and signals to others while backing, but won't back herself. Ah, the complexities of life
But it works and makes long trips that much more enjoyable. And if one of us is sick, the other can drive...... At least forward, anyways

Absolutely my wife does. She prefers to have me do the mountain roads but she does them too.

She however can not back up to save her life.

I have the flip side, I (the wife) do it all, the hitching, the driving and the backing. The one time I let the hubby drive when towing the popup, was the only time I white knuckled it. He drives like there is not a camper attached at all. And That was the last time I let him behind the wheel. And that is even more true now we have the hybrid...

So I answered "no", but its not entirely accurate... I married a farm girl- she knows how to drive tractor. Has driven large trucks. Has pulled trailers. And can can generally get "stuff" done.

That said, she doesn't care to know how to hitch up, and doesn't want to think about everything that goes with driving. She would rather navigate, find fun stops, and tend to the kids. And driving the rig on the road is a lot different than a tractor in the field. Rolling over a row of corn does a lot less damage than rolling over a row of traffic barrels!
If something happened and I couldn't drive... I'm sure she would figure it out. But I'm here so in her mind; Why bother?

*We have discussed the emergency stop if something ever happened while driving... Grab the wheel and hold us straight then hold down the trailer brake to bring us to a stop, or close enough to a stop where she could slide over and hit the real brake.

If I kicked off out on the road, my DW of 47 years would just call the oldest son to come get everything. While she has driven my old F250 7.3 pulling a long gooseneck horse trailer, many, many years ago, she would choose not to.

I probably need to make a more detailed check sheet to tear down and load up, step-by-step.

Everyone is talking about the primary driver dying but while y'all are old farts- the reality is more along the lines of flu, twisted ankle, or broken bone than death.

Totally agree. Very bad idea to not have your significant other to not know how to drive and hook up the rig. Back when we were on a boating trip, 14 hours away from home, I broke an ear drum water skiing. Thankfully, my wife knew how to get us home

Yes I included my health which probably led some people down the path of doom and destruction. Thank you for this addition.

I got my wife hooked on camping, and when we went looking at campers, i told her the only way we are ever getting one is if she learns to tow. she would like a much larger trailer, but refuses to tow one. so we have one that we are both comfortable towing (and has the right amount of space for us anyway). we can both back up, spot the other, full set up, tear down, hitch and unhitch. I am the primary driver, but she has no problem taking over or even starting out. there are times when she is very uncomfortable doing it, but she does just fine. I set very high expectations for her and she exceeds them every time.

She can, and has. She prefers to have me drive. She towed the previous 5th wheel a few times for maybe a total of 100 miles on flat 4 lane roads. She has also towed the current 5th wheel for an hour also on a flat 4 lane. So yes, she can. If we have a situation where I cannot drive, I am sure she will get all the help she needs in the campground, wherever we are, to hook us up for the road. Then a slow, careful ride home. As a backup plan we have kids and grandkids that could help.

Only once in all the years we've had rv's has my DW "helped" with the driving. Back in '09 she towed our Roo 23SS to a SP while I worked. Trying to get her to do some driving with the motor home now.... maybe on the coming trip, since it's all interstate.

I should also add to my post # 20 that my DW towed ALL our pop-ups, drove our truck camper and smaller TTs but wants nothing to do with this 36' 5th wheel.
