Dometic awning torn off completely with frame.

Hello all,

Yes. I loaned a family member my 2017 coachmen freelander 20cb. Came back with no awning. I mean completely gone. Even the rails. Says it opened while driving. Anyways. I know in order to buy from Dometic direct won't happen. Anyone have any experience buying a customer complete new assembly from another website or vendor. It's a 9100 series. Was thinking of getting it with the wind sensor also. I'm in Florida if any techs are mobile. I appreciate any help in advance. Tried coachmen/ Dometic. Not happening. These dealers are crazy with their markup pricing. Click image for larger version

Sorry about the damage to your RV. At least you have someone other than yourself to be mad at. You are now the poster boy as to why you don’t loan out your RV.

You are being redirected...
Link on PPL to "Build and Price" a Dometic 9100 series.

You are being redirected...

PS, Sorry to see this happen as you were loaning your rig to a family member. I would hope they will take care of the bill to make it right.

Your first mistake is lending your RV out....the rest is history and hopefully a lesson learned. I hope they pay for it to save you the grief.

My money is that they left it open when a wind storm came through.
Ditto on never lending RV to family or friends.

Man I hope they don't try and stick you with the bill. It didn't come down on its own. They forgot to latch it. Point is it happened on their watch, unless you rented it to them, and even then, like a rental car, they were responsible for it to bring it back in the same condition as you let them have it.

That sucks! You know what they say, you can choose your friends but not your family! Hope they treat you right with a new awning and a steak dinner.

Why can't you buy direct from them? I bought direct from them when I had to replace some awning fabric at least I didn't have a problem, you would need the model # on the roller which would be hard to get now, but I'm sure another member can give you that. Hope that helps you, sorry to hear that good luck.

Absolutely. Even our two grown/married sons know not to ask to borrow. If I ever did let ANYONE use our trailer, I'd insist on towing it, setting it up and bringing it home afterwards. But, they probably wouldn't want to sit through the 14-hour training session that I would also insist on before I left them in it.

By the pics I'm assuming it was an electric awning, which means...it didn't come out on it's own or came unlatched. When I purchase a new tool, I always buy the cheapest first, cause it's always inevitable that one of the kids will borrow it, then I never see it again. Then I go out and get the one I really wanted and it doesn't get loaned out.
Good luck on your search...you'll find the best deal...it's out there just waiting for you.

Personally, I would use this opportunity to switch to a Carefree awning. My 3 year old Dometic fabric wore out and I replaced it with Carefree. I bought a Carefree several years ago and installed it myself. The fabric was still good 12 years later when I sold it.

Something FISHY

Looking at the pictures, the awning looks like it was REMOVED. I don't see a lot of consequential damages from it being Ripped off while moving?
How responsible are these "family members". Just my 2 cents

I would think insurance would cover it. Find a mobile service tech that can get you what you want and install it. Then just pay the deductible.

To late now but for your next awning you might want to look at this product. Awninglock.com
If your family is telling you the truth and I suspect they are. Awnings either power or manual can unfurl and will rip off the side of your rv. This product will lock your awning to prevent it. I installed one on my TT this spring and it was very easy to do. Takes about an hour or less.

Its possible it got ripped off if they had little ones traveling with them and they hit the awning switch. I would still hold them accountable for damages and make them pay up. Part of the process when borrowing things and as said never loan to family. Later RJD

Three things you should never loan out ...Your motorhome, your lawn mower and your wife......I can't tell the punch line or I will get banned.

+1, when I saw the pictures my first thought was that it was stolen and not torn off while driving.

Well, I have a buddy who was pulling his camper to the races for a weekend. As he was crossing the Missouri River on I435 heading into Kansas, his entire electric awning was ripped off his camper. Had it not been someone I know, I would never believe it.

Did you look at the roof? IF it was blown off I would think there would be evidence on the roof. Might want to check anyway.
