When I first got my Wildwood 5er, first day of camping, we did what this OP did. We went outside, and the door locked behind us. Not the deadbolt, just the door.
Long story longer...I was able to call the dealer before closing and he was nice enough to bring out a key. He told me that almost all campers have the same door key, which is why dealers tell you not to lock the deadbolt.
My 5er has a back door also, and the key for that is different than the front door. Also, my outside kitchen door is NOT a CH751.
Anyway, my butt was saved because my dealer was nice to me. Dealer, BTW, was Affordable RVs on exit 100 outside Winston-Salem, NC.
BTW, I haven't done it yet, but I will go to combo locks on the doors. It's an easy refit and you can buy the locks online.

I went to an rv show and asked a salesman to look at a locked compartment. Be said he didn't have the right key. I tryed my rv key and it worked. 🔑.

Thanks everyone. I have no clue how both locks engaged, but can only assume it was a freak thing.

I agree that campers are pretty much an honest bunch and we have never had any problems in campgrounds. Currently, however, we are volunteering and are being housed at a separate location (rural campground) where we are sometimes the only ones here. The campground is right off the highway but somewhat hidden by tree line, and it is not uncommon for motorists to just drive through. Those circumstances make me a little nervous, particularly since we are gone 6-7 hours a day on some days.

If we keep this unit, I think we will look at the combo locks. The older we get, the harder it is to keep up with everything...including the keys! And we also have two sets -- one for back door and one for front, although we never use the back door. Ironically, we have never been successful in getting the back door locks to open the front doors! Go figure!

Spare truck key in a magnetic key box on the truck and spare camper keys in a magnetic key box on the camper.
