Downside to owning a camper.

It's heightened my awareness as to just how long, cold, dark and boring winter's are here in Massachusetts.

The downsides also apply even if you don't own a camper yet, but have been shopping for a year. Ask me how I know. It's supposed to be near 50 today in WI. That's a crazy tease for January.

When you first drive off w your new camper its cloud 9

Then the rest of that first year the reality sets in. All those trips back to the dealer , the waiting , the phone calls and aggravation soon take the thrill out.For me its/was a downer

Today Im looking forward to a drive out to the seasonal site to check on my unit.
April 15th coming soon???

I sympathize with your East Coast winters. Too many of mine were spent in Maryland.
I have learned to winterize my camper enjoyably. In November I move it to Florida.
Retirement is ROUGH, I am blessed that I could do 10 years ago at 56. Hope ya’ll can join us soon.
Travel safe

Yeah there are downsides, but there are also upsides - all the great memories you're going to make.

The more time I spend in the camper, the less I want to go home.

Never a downside to the camper, just a downside to how many days it is parked not at a campground or music festival as we work towards retirement.

That said, love living in Florida & will be camping at 2 different music festivals for the weekends this February (& another 5 day one in April).... If you love rockin bagpipes & mountain dulcimers playing a bit of Pink Floyd with Irish coffee for breakfast check out Celtic Family Jamboree in Dade City, FL.

No downside here. Just need a winter toy to offset use.

Sounds like the downside is where you live, not the camper.

When something frustrating happens, it feels like a last straw sometimes. But, as the years roll by and my library of memories has gotten so rich, the little things all disappear. I wouldn't trade a dollar back for any one memory.

It's frustrating to me how many times folks comment on rv depreciation as if its a terrible thing. If you're buying an rv as a financial investment, you need some financial counseling. You should be buying it as an investment in experiences. In that light, my returns have exceeded the market.

You just need something to take your mind off those summer days in the TT.

You are correct and who would want to ride in MA...we travel home to northern Maine to enjoy winter. Our Windjammer has 63 more days left of hibernation...can’t wait so until then we’ll just keep on riding.
Happy Trails
