Emergency Travel Insurance - Suggestions?

We're heading out next month for our first "after-retirement" long (2 month) trip, traveling quite far from our home. Just realized it might be a good idea to have some kind of travel insurance to get our TT and TV home in the event one of us has a medical emergency. I've searched the forum and any info I came across was quite a few years old. Maybe I'm searching the wrong topic.

Is there such a thing? Any recommendations? As always, your help is greatly appreciated!

Good Sam has it. Have not needed it yet and I'm not pro/con Camping World. To each their own.

Look into joining Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA). They have a travel assist program that is included with your membership that may be what you are looking for. I have not used but maybe others can chime in with their experience.

Coach-Net Premier advertises those services as part of their package. I have it but have not used it.

I have the one offered by Good Sam club. Peace of mind. Hopefully never to be used.

Depending on what your needs are, we use SkyMed. When I had a medical emergency in Calgary, Canada last year, SkyMed arranged an air ambulance to bring my husband and me home to my local hospital. They also paid a professional driver to fly to Calgary & drive our truck & trailer back to our home.

SkyMed will bring you home from any place you travel whether you are camping or not.

You should also check on your health insurance, if you are out of the country, will your insurance cover your health care?

Have fun in your travels!

I have Skymed but have not had to use it. It is also good at home in a small town with only one doctor and you will be flown out in any serious situation. MASA is another good one. Just make sure the plan is good anywhere, not just when traveling in your RV. Some say you must be more than 100 miles from home.

Your Costco card

Take a look at what comes included with your Costco credit card. Besides great rebates and gas discounts and lowest priced propane refills per gallon/pound, there's great travel insurance. I haven't looked at all the features but we had to postpone an overseas trip and they covered every penny of expense.

We have Blue Cross/Blue Shield Medicare Advantage. (Buffalo, NY area) We have been told we can go to an ER and a Urgent Care - THAT'S IT!! We used it once in a ER, DH had a kidney stone, he was kept overnight (Lake Worth, FL) - The bill was $23,000 - we paid $65!! We have nothing else, just our regular medical insurance. I have read that you do not need Travel Insurance unless your trip is over $3000.

I am glad we have United Healthcare Medicare Advantage. Have had it for several years now and have needed it for each of us several times in the last few years. Out of pocket was only Copay. With Good Sam, I have the coverage to get us and our rig home! Hope to not need it.

If you are Canadian going to the US, make sure you have medical insurance.

I broke my wrist while in Myrtle Beach in 2013. It was a serious break, requiring surgery, a titanium plate and 10 screws. While I never spent an overnight in hospital, the total bill was $46,000 US (Emergency visit, consultation with specialist, surgery in hospital and a followup). Our company insurance (Great West Life) negotiated it down to $36K. They paid the full cost.

We're always amazed at the number of people who don't arrange insurance. As the say, "in a New York minute" life can change.
