We live in a gated community but that does not make it any more secure. A winter ago some jerk stole both of my full propane tanks. Now I have drilled a I/2 inch hole in the big wing nut and the cross piece and have dropped a good pad lock thru the hole. Also have a large hitch lock on the unit.
Paint scrapers are great for prying open storage doors and the main door on any unit. One time a friend of mine left his Honda generator at the gas pumps to go in and pay and when he came out it was gone.
Another guy I know went in to have lunch at a gas station and someone boosted both his batteries on the front of his trailer. They used big wire cutters . only took them one minute.
We have a motion light on our unit now and when its dark it detects movement and thus lights up.
Moral of the story, nothing is safe.

Just had someone cut my fence, cut the lock on my shed, and stole my push mower. If you look in the pic, there's an unlocked gate (I opened for the pic) just 40 ft away; but NO, they had to cut the fence.

I guess that's why they're burglars and not rocket scientists!

It has happened. I was having service done at CW, one with collision repair, and asked how a 5er was hurt. The tech told me someone pulled his hitch while he was in paying for fuel. Said his truck was in a body shop too. I always lock mine now.

First, KNOCK ON WOOD, I have never had a problem. But I worry. I have locks on batteries and tanks, But how to protect the valves and the Emergency Brake rip cord?

Other than just continuous vigilance does anyone have a plan. There is you YouTube vlogger Nomadic Fanatic who does a bit on his viper brand remote controlled alarm and 360 degree video surveillance, but that might be a bit extreme for me.

Maybe it is the NRA sticker on my truck (LOL), but after more then 30 years of motor homes and trailers, I have never had anyone touch my rigs.

I think everybody is safer if they stick with an RV Park.

This is my fear. I always check the hitch pin when we are traveling whenever I am away from the rig. I also always do a walk around before we get back on the road.

Same sticker and on a side window of truck, don't try to pet the dog unless you don't need a hand.

Had someone try to steal the generator off the back of a class C motor home we had a few years ago while we were inside sleeping, I had been awake over 24hrs and had just drove 14hrs. Wife tried to wake me when she heard the racket I said unless their breaking in the back door I'm going back to sleep.

Maybe someone else will clarify, but I am to the understanding that you can lock the propane tank to the vehicle, but you can not lock the access door. I believe the fire dept. likes to have access to the valves in case of a fire. Read that one time somewhere about a hundred years ago.

Possibly someone being a prankster. Or, did you ask hotel management, maybe a maintenance man went out and turned them off...just guessing.

When we left New Mexico in February '97 to move to Reno NV, we towed our TT up first and parked it in an RV park. We had two 20# and two 40# bottles hooked up to it. We left our two cats in the trailer with the gas on to keep the trailer warm for the kitties. We told the park owner what we were doing and that we would be back in a week. He said he would keep an eye on it for us. We flew home after parking the truck at my new employer's office across from Reno-Tahoe Airport. We returned a week later with our stuff to move into our new home. We spent the first night in the trailer. When we arrived at the RV park, we discovered that some busybody had turned off the gas. It must have happened a couple of days after we left because the tanks were still full. My wife freaked out. She ran inside but the kitties were safe and warm. They had hidden under covers and kept warm. I asked the park manager and he said he didn't see anyone but one of the people came by later and said his son had turned the gas off. He had been punished by his parents. Our neighbor asked if anything had been damaged, but I said no, we had our two cats inside and they had found a way to keep warm. The guy was horrified. Our food was still good (it was winter), so no harm done. The last I heard of him, he was home yelling at his nosey kid.

That's closer to 400 years. Must have been ancient wisdom!

When at home I loop a cable lock through the tank handles so thief would have to remove both at once (60 # if full) or cut the cable.

Away from home, whether on road or in campgrounds, I unlock it for reasons you describe. Heard firemen may want to move them away from camper.
