extended service plan

I posted this on another rv website. Disregard if you already read this.

I know many of you may not believe in having an extended service plan. I am considering purchasing an extended service plan for my rv. I understand that fmca, good sam, camping world, etc offer such plans. I am open to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly of such plans. Would any of you fellow rvers care to enlighten me about the extended service plans available and what I should consider when purchasing a plan? All opinions are welcome.

Save your money for if/when you may need it. The fine print will drive you nuts with what is and is not covered, and where it might be honoured……while you’re touring the countryside.

Just out of curiosity…..did you take one out on your Jeep?

Research XtraRide Platinum. Several members here (and myself) have had these policies and had very good results with them. They covered everything except wear items (tires, brakes, etc) and were honored everywhere we used them across the country. No ridiculous fine print or periodic maintenance requirements. Closest to a true bumper to bumper that I have ever seen. Worth taking a look at!

I was extremely satisfied with my use of XtraRide Platinum that Scott mentions. Yes, it was several years ago - 2014 to be exact - but I paid $1800 for a 5-year contract. I used it 2x and it paid out $4200. I submitted the claim/evidence to a local repair shop 10 days before the contract expired and the claim was paid AFTER the contract ended! The service manager was happy to see my policy was with XtraRide; he said it was a good policy.

Echo XtraRide Platinum

We went with the XtraRide Platinum. My dealer, that I believe to be one of the few that is honest and trustworthy, only offers this because they believe it to be the only one worth offering. We were told because we got a Rockwood, he would recommend it (because of the "fancier" options). If it wasn't a higher end model, he said it wouldn't be worth it, in his opinion. But, because of all of the electric jacks, etc, it would pay for itself if something went out.

If you are planning a long term to keeping your camper then it maybe worth it. Longest I've kept mine is 5 years and never had any issues so never invested in extended warranties . later RJD

Put the money, one would pay each month or year for the service plan, into a savings account. In the end, you'll still have the money and if needed it will be there for service.

Having sold "extended warranties", they are a high-profit item for the seller and seemingly don't cover what actually fails. Plus there is a deductible that often pays for the required service.

In other words, it is basically a crap shoot.
