EZ bake oven!!!

can anyone tell me why then even bother to put these things in trailers. You might as well try to cook with a light bulb. You might even get more even cooking with a light bulb. The oven i have in the trailer is made by Surburban. We are camping right now and my wife tried cooking some cinnamon rolls this morning. At the lowest temp which is 300 degrees the bottoms were burnt in about 5-7 minutes and so she took them out and flipped them with a spatula to kinda cook the other side. We've also had this experience cooking biscuits in our last trailer. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would have rathered a convection microwave with just a stove top then this thing, but it's too late for that now.

some have tried putting alrge 12x12 unglaxed tile on the rack over the burner to help smooth out the heat.
our oven has a very low setting of 225 and seems to cook pretty well.

We have had some decent luck with the tiles. I went to Home Depot (or Lowes) and picked up 4 - 6x6 (or similar size) tiles and put them across the bottom of the oven. I can't say that it has completely fixed the uneven heating but it has helped.

As you noted, it seems to burn things on the edges pretty quickly.

We actually use ours more as a second oven when we are cooking for family gatherings than camping. It cooks up my wife's baked beans perfectly, and on trips does fine with the cinnamon rolls.

We use a lare pizza stone and set it on the metal shelf that is directly above the burner.

It helps spread the heat instead of concentrating it in the middle.

Thats what we do.We set a couple pizza pans on bottom shelf it helps keep stuff from burning

We use a microwave, always had problems lighting the oven, so we gave up. Most of our cooking is done on the fire ring ( out side ). When bad weather hits we go out to eat. I guess that's not true camping!

I'll try for pics, but it might be a couple days.

I put the tiles right on the metal bottom of the oven. However, I do NOT cover the slits down either side - the oven flame does need to breathe. This is why we went with the smaller tiles.

Several people use those "air bake" baking sheets to do the same thing. I don't know which would work better. I do know that without something, they do heat very unevenly.

I have used the oven in our camper with and without success. I put 4 6x6 unglazed tiles on the metal piece that is directly above the flame and center them between the holes on the sides and against the back of the oven (no holes across the back of this metal piece). Do not let the bakeware on the baking rack "hang over" any of the holes on the sides or the front as the food will burn since that is where the heat comes from. I've baked cookies and chicken breasts successfully this way (bottom of bakeware was not greased).

Burnt items have been cinnamon rolls and brownies. I did not have the tiles in place when I baked these (I remove them while traveling) and the bottom of the bakeware was greased both times, so next time I won't grease the bottom of the pan (it's a non-stick pan) to see how items bake. Full size bakeware for kitchen ovens is too big for the camper ovens as it goes over the holes on the metal piece above the flame. I use bakeware for toaster ovens.

Just my experience so far...I'm still in the learning phase. Oh, I did do some research on the oven and the material I read said to "pre-heat oven 15 minutes before using it."

Thanks for the tip on the stoneware pizza pan. We just happen to have one,
still in the box gathering cobwebs in the closet.
It is now in the oven waiting the next test on the cinnamon rolls ;-))

We have had3 different campers in the last 9 years and have never even turned the stove onWhat you need to do is practice baking on your grill it workes great

We have no problems baking in our new oven in our V lite. I baked a cake and cookies yesterday. Better then my oven at home.

just get a Dutch Oven! J/k....

We used the tiles and pizza stone trick in our RV oven. I found that the pizza stone was better. It was large, and rectangle in shape. Like they said...not perfect, but sure did help. Now we have a large apt. style range/oven...and don't have this issue.
