Silly Diesel Question in regards to the Fuel/Water superstar on a 2016 F350 PS 6.7?

Read up in your owner's manual.

How often do you check it?

Drain every time the oil is changed to check for any contamination.

What do you do when you check it?

Drain into a clean pan. Water and fuel oil does not mix so it will show up in the pan.

When there is water in the fuel? How do you get rid of it?

If it's just a little in a pan it's not a big deal. If your light is on and you have a large quantity of water then the tank should be drained to assure all the water is removed.

ONLY USE MOTORCRAFT FILTERS.

2016 F350 SCREW SB 6.7 PS Diesel
2015 FR Rockwood Roo 23IKSS

I did but just wanted to see how everyone else is checking things, some say check every month some say only when you change your oil?

First newer diesel for me so I want to be sure, I have 1600 on it now just went to the dealer so they say bring it in when oil monitor says 25% they will not change it before that, and I bought Blue DEF from Walmart so as time goes on I will get better at maintenance but for now everything covered through Ford except wearable items like pads, belts and filters.

Thanks for all the info

Hey ForScan users...check out the DPF Load percentage. It shows 122.9%. How can you have more than 100%? Kinda strange, huh? Do y'all see numbers like this?

Yup, nobody knows the exact formula that Ford uses. All 3rd party apps go above 100%. Only true gauge is adding it to your productivity screen which many of us have done now.

Thanks. BTW, today was the longest regen I have experienced to date. It took 24 miles! However, that was all on a mountainous type road with a lot of winding turns, climbing and descending. Accelerating and decelerating the whole time.

Too funny, guys! Go to post #33 on page 4. This is a pretty cool and inexpensive tool for monitoring your truck. You can monitor the computers that control the engine, transmission, environmental, etc. I think there are 9 different computers. There are hundreds of points you can monitor and you can read any fault codes. Between the software, the tablet and the OBDII adapter, I only have about $60 invested.

My Diesel still the shop. Anyone with. 14, 15, early 16 6.7 l get the regen codes flashed. They were only using the left side for extra fuel during regen. The valve on mine were a little gummed up and one was burnt. They pull the head and installed new exhaust valves.

Really, I have an early 16 with 6400 miles so far with no issues. It was just in for the 5000K oil change and they did not see any issues.

Did you get any indication of a problem? I only ask because I have a 2016 and the exhaust cleaning flashes up on mine then disappears almost as quickly. It had the 8000Km oil change a couple of days ago but nothing was said about there being a problem.

Some engines have bee reprogrammed to use both sides. This is a TSB not a recall. If after Regen light comes on the engine sputters and you loose power it needs to be checked. Also they don't have to pull the cab either.

Thanks. No spluttering so I'm banking on it being ok. I will keep an eye out though and at least I have a starting point if things start happening.

I don't have the exhaust brake, but I do let it cool down after towing, it gets cool oil to the turbo saves the bearings

The only way to for sure to know if the drive off the main road to your camping site was good enough to cool the turbo down is with an exhaust gas temperature gauge. If EGTs is below 300 deg F then go ahead and shut her down immediately. If you don't have an EGT than follow the Ford diesel supplement instructions with a 3-5 minute cooldown.

My other diesel's owner manual says almost the same thing that the Ford diesel owner supplement manual says which is:
30 second warm up in warm weather
1 minute warm up in cold weather
30 second to 1 minute turbo idle cooldown in normal driving
1 minute to 3 minute turbo idle cooldown in highspeed highway driving
5 minute cooldown when towing.

Is idling your rig 5 minutes after towing going to kill your pocket book or ruin your day with time wasted? NOPE. Having to replace a turbo prematurely will though!

Just follow the instructions in the DIESEL SUPPLEMENT and you'll be ok.
Amen

I know this is a Ford topic, but if anyone is driving a year model 2005-2007.5 GM 2500 or 3500 Duramax there is an exhaust brake programmed into the ECM. From factory the GM HD trucks during these years only came with transmission braking while tow/haul mode engaged.

GM used the same ECM in the HD and Topkicks. The Topkicks came from factory with Exhaust brake and transmission brake. All you need to do is add a switch to ground on one ECM plug pin in the HD Trucks to activate exhaust brake AND transmission brake on the HD truck. The HD already has the exhaust brake program, but no switch.

I bought a $3 switch and went to GM dealership for ECM pins, 2 hours later I have an exhaust brake.

Update on my engine work. They replaced the exhaust valves on the left bank. Nothing was wrong with them when removed. The reprogram did atop the knock. Had a drop of oil when at home when parked. It has eve loped to something worse on the road Going to see a Ford dealer here at Goshen.
