Just suppose, for a minute, that he was completely aware of his situation. What would he do?
You can turn a trailer tighter than you can back it. He can't back up. He can't go forward. He could unhook, but without a short-wheelbase farm tractor or such, he cannot move the trailer. He probably had the drive-thru blocked for hours as it was. It would have been longer if he had to round up the right kind of equipment.
That doesn't excuse the destruction--especially since he didn't get free--but this looks like a once he made the turn he was done for.
