Finally got a chance to get to know her better

Spent the afternoon out in her today getting to know her.

We bought her in the dead of winter and it was way too cold to do anything but check her roof seams, check for leak damage, run up the generator, test her shore power systems and heater and take her for a test drive.

The weather warmed up today to the point I was able to do a more detailed inspection, run up and test her power systems on generator, give her a full cleaning, open up her hidden spaces, (two old mouse nest removed) and take some detailed photos of her internal systems.

The good news, she's dry as bone inside. There there were buckets of snow melt running off her all day so if she had any leaks they would have shown through.

She goes in to our local FR dealer for a complete house inspection and system repairs (where needed) in a few weeks.

The only disappointment is that, apparently, she doesn't have an inverter installed. So for then first half of this season it will be shore power or generator only for the bigger draw systems. On the bright side, if I take her to solar and lithium, I won't have too many components to replace, just a whole lot to buy and install.

The best way to get to know her is to take her camping.
This goes for both RVs and women.

@wildmanabe Oh yeah. The "fun"...

@ppine We're still living with snow and cold weather and will be for another month and a bit, but I am looking forward to her first trip. As to taking the woman camping, the Mrs. and I have been camping together for 25 years and yes you never know what you're gonna get til you get em out in the bush.

My first thought is to question whether a FR dealer is the best place to go. In my area of congested suburban So Cal, our best bet has been independent shops. The "Truck" issues go to a truck service center. I decided I am too old to do my own oil changes and chassis lube and shock changes etc. Then for the RV stuff that I have not been able to handle myself it goes to local independent shops, based upon their on line ratings and comments followed by my inquiry/interview. Even on a road trip Convoy last year, we had one rig with a problem and so we did a whole bunch of careful online searching (Saturday nite broken down in a Outback Steakhouse lot) and found a mobile service technician who was unbelievably honest, competent and reasonably priced.

If it is DRY and tight at 17 years old you are way ahead of the game already. Watch YouTube until you learn the way around your systems. I learned to install solar and battery upgrades by trial and error with help of Youtube and others and we have done or helped do over a dozen solar installs, several inverter installs, and lithium conversions. All done without the input of any FR Dealer or any other shop. It is a giant learning curve but good DIY skills and some patience and some hours watching YouTube, and you can do a bunch more than you ever thought you could.

Good Luck and ENJOY the rig
