Finally got it waxed

I have been trying to find the time to wax my 8288WS since the spring and there never seems to be a good time. So before it faded and oxidized any further I hired someone to do it for me. Considering how bad it was, I think that it turned out great. Anyway, I thought that I would share.

The pics are a bit dark (sorry about that) but it was late evening until they finished up.

They charged me $250 but they gave me a $50 discount for being a repeat customer (they detailed my wife's car the week before) and took off $50 because I washed it.

It looks great! I washed and waxed ours last weekend. When I was done I told DW we are never getting a longer camper.

Yes, it does look good.

It normally takes about 2 hours to wash it, including the awnings and slide toppers (with black streak remover, and wash and wax). I wax it twice a year, and that takes about 3-4 hours depending on the heat. Not a job I relish, but it does look good, when it's done!

Granted, my unit is short, but I have found that just doing one side at a time over a period of time is a lot easier than tackling the entire unit. I keep a record of side and date on my phone to make sure each side gets done twice a year. Also keep a towel handy all the time for missed spots. I carry a 13 foot folding ladder when camping for that and other uses. Like checking on roof. At my age,doing the whole trailer at once is not a good idea. I always use a good carnuba wax which is easy to use and handles any black marks well. Check Amazon for best types and prices

when washing did you have any of the front decals become lose? my 2013 rockwood front decal became lose while I was washing a little afraid to wax front end now.

My decals were peeling prior to waxing but I have a new set. (Last fall I contacted FR and bought a new set of decals.) They were about $100.

Looks great! I'm with the post about breaking the job into sections vs. trying to do all at once. It takes me one hour to wash my 34.5 ft. rig including the wheels and tires. So after a rewarding beer I waxed the rear and driver side of the rig. Did the front and part of the curbside another time and final 2/3 curbside. For the first time in ten years owning a motor home I tried another product from my usual and trusted NuFinish. Reading this same subject either on another section of this forum or another one I tried out Mequier's Mirror Finish #21. Amazon for about $36 for a 64 oz. bottle. Went on great and easier off than the NuFinish, without any "wax dust" that NF leaves and most other wax/polishes leaving an amazing shine. However, it did not clean black streaks, bug residue or any other hard to wash off stuff like the NuFinish does. Also doesn't rub out the small surface scratches you may get like from tree branches like NF does so well. Final verdict won't be in until next Spring when I see how much of it remains after the first washing of the new season and how well the water beads up and shine remains. So far I do like the Meguier's though.

I read on another forum or this one a while back that someone had good luck with ProtectAll All-Surface Care (with Carnauba wax). I bought a 16 oz bottle, and haven't tried it yet. I doubt if it will take care of the whole job (I wish) but will try it on part of the RV tomorrow and see how it works.

It cost me $10 an hour & Lunch !!!

Sorry alittle Johnny Cash just came out of me. But I was thinking the very same thing... do one side at a time... just like cleaning my house - I used to do it all in one day... No more... just hit what needs done. No need to go CRAZY...

It DOES look VERY NICE!... I immediately looked at your location hoping you were near by and I could get your detailers information. You hate to try someone new and turn them loose on your camper so it's nice to get a referral from someone that was happy with their detailer... Thanks for sharing... It created a good conversation. We had a 28" and now a 35' and taller... so I'm not even looking forward to trying to tackle this trailer.... Husband had to replace the 3' ladder with an 8' ladder.... Debbie

Man, that is a deal. For a wash and wax in northern Ohio, we pay $10 - $12.00 per foot.

MD isn't that far away and if you are traveling south on a trip in the near future and wanted to make a pit stop to get it waxed along the way. The entire job only took them a few hours (I washed it prior though). You could leave the trailer with them, go shopping or out to eat and hook back up when they are done. They are only about 7mi off the interstate; I95 exit 126. I know that both guys have FT jobs but I am fairly certain that they could figure something out for you.
