Finished with the RV life

After 45 years, 2 travel trailers, 5 5th wheels, and one motor home, I have rolled up the sewer hose for the last time. It has been a great experience and will miss everything about it. After two knee replacements, open heart surgery, and three back operations, it has gotten to be too much for me to handle. I still plan on logging on to this forum as I enjoy the back and forth between members. One thing I have learned, everybody has an opinion. Another thing that I notice, is the lack of knowledge on how RV's in general work. A great deal of the issues members seem to have are common sense issues.

So happy camping to everyone. Keep the shiny side up.

We understand. Hopefully you'll still be able to travel. May campgrounds have cabins (with bathrooms) for rent for those who still want the camping experience without the need to have an rv.
If that's too much, we certainly need your experience in the forum to help others.

Congratulations sdfarmer, on all the miles you've traveled, and all the things you've seen.

There is no “common sense” today. The operative is “common”. “We” is , nowdays, “us”. There is a difference. It might be good for the future, but is painful for the “we” from the past. I got used to it. That made it easier for me.

Wow, after 45 years, I imagine you still have not seen it all, but I have to believe you've seen a good bit of it. It's too bad those issues have gotten in the way of you continuing, but it is what it is. Good to see you will be hanging around. I expect you have just a bit of knowledge and experience still to share. Anyway, take care, and hope to see you around.

Sorry to hear about you calling it quits. I'll bet you've got plenty of stories about your adventures. Hopefully you'll still be able to get out and about. Best of luck on your new path.

Well we meet that milestone in life. I’m about to do the same. Having experienced the camping life for 53 years now it’s almost time for me to make the same decision. Spine surgery, both shoulders total replacements, quad bypass, hernia repair, still have my God given knees although questionable at the moment. I hear you brother it’s been a ride for sure with the bride. Stay safe stay warm stay healthy.

I agree, but sometimes issues that appear to be "common sense" are only common sense for folks who have developed skills in the trades (electrical, plumbing, mechanics). I went from ocean cruising to the RV because it was less physical, but at 76, I'm not far behind you!

Enjoy all the great memories you have! We're on our 6th camper and hope we can enjoy the lifestyle for a while yet but at 70 I know my day will come too.

Very true what u say Trawlerphil. I’ve restored homes in the past so that education led to lower repair bills on the rv. Our minds say we can but the body puts up one heck of an argument.

Favorite RV was a 2004 Excel. Beautiful camper, well built & heavy. Towed a motorcycle trailer behind it with a Honda Goldwing. Bumper to bumper I was 71'6". Little overlength but never had a problem.

There is an old saying that sometimes still has meaning. "Ignorance is bliss". Sometimes! Keep on moving even though you're finished with the RV stuff. Best of luck.

Best wishes in your next life adventures. Will look forward to your insight on questions asked on this forum.
We purchased a bigger truck, just waiting for it to arrive, to make traveling cross country easier. Like you, who knows how much longer we will able do the kind of off the grid camping we do. It it is fun and the sights are beautiful. Sometimes it is lots of work. You need to take the good with the bad.
I find myself educating newbie campers at different campgrounds, only if I feel they are open to suggestions. Or if they are doing something dangerous that could impact us.

Hanging up the Keys

SD Farmer: Know the feeling. We started to FT in 1995 and went until 2021. What an adventure! Hit all 50 states, some of Canada, and some of Mexico. Don't regret a minute of it but it was time to live in something without wheels. Will continue on the Forum as I enjoy the back and forth also. Happy trails to everyone.
