On our current 5th wheel with a Suburban Oven/stove, we have to hold the button in for what seems an eternity as well before the pilot will stay lit. Others I've owned, not so much. I've checked flame and thermocouple positions and all is well.

Does yours do it every time? Mine only does it on the initial lighting for the trip. Every light after that is pretty quick.

I'd say more so the first time or anytime it has sat a couple days not being used.

That's why I'm thinking that it's a bunch of air in the line.

Something to look at if the pilot light doesn't stay lit is the "Thermocouple". It's a small rod that should be directly in the path of the pilot light. If it's not in the path of the flame, when you let go of the knob when the pilot is lit and it's not hitting the thermocouple, the oven doesn't think it's lit and shuts the gas off when you release the knob. If it's not in the flame path, you can give it a nudge to get it in the path and that may fix the issue.

While I was living in my camper I made a short video about exactly this topic.

They key, as stated before, is the thermocouple. If that doesn't stay hot either by your lighter or the pilot, the gas for will stop.

I am following this thread since our oven will not stay lit. Our first impression was the thermocouple as Wolfpaq82 suggests. The dealer replaced it but no change. It lights and comes to temperature and then shuts off. It would hold a pilot and stay at a temp.

Any suggestions? Still sound like thermocouple? Stove burners are good and gas regulator is fine.

It helps to purge the air by lighting a stove burner first

I get on the floor and contort myself as well.

Turn oven to pilot and push in for a few seconds before even looking for the pilot light area.

Then using a long lighter I push the knob in again and aim it for the pilot. When it looks like the pilot might be lit, I turn the oven knob and the main burner fires up, keeping the pilot on.
Once the thermo-couple senses heat from the lighter, it takes off in less than 10 seconds. No waiting to hold the knob down to keep it lit.

I travel with a 16 year old oven lighting technician.

When he graduates and goes to college in 2 years we plan to stop using the oven.....

If your stove is around 4 years old and you are just running across this now because this is the first time you've tried using the oven, then this post may be relevant to you.
