First camping experience

55 year old guy who has never camped. Picked up my Rockwood A122 on Tuesday, made a ridiculous list of stuff I should bring and did bring. So far I only seem to have forgotten one thing. The gravy mix for biscuits and gravy. Store opens at 8. There shall be biscuits and gravy!

Drove 150 most of it through rain. Got here (Outer Banks NC) and it stopped raining basically just long enough for me set up. Set up was very easy.

The A122 has one tiny leak by the door at the hinge. I’m certain a blob of sealant fixes the problem and again it is a tiny leak and it is raining HARD.

I have a great Wi-Fi signal and I brought a Hauppauge 955Q USB TV tuner to use on the laptop. They do have cable here but I get 12 or so channels over the air and I am NOT a TV guy anyway. Local news and weather is about all I care about.

Also my iPad with cellular works great as well.

I have a shortwave radio and SDR radio as well and I can listen to NOAA weather.

So while I’d rather be outside with the dog there is plenty to keep me entertained inside. The AC worked awesome last night and I slept like a rock with the rain sounds on the roof.

So the weather is bad but I couldn’t be happier. Dog seems pretty content as well.

This camping thing was a great idea!

Now that you got the camping bug you will hardly ever stay at home.

What is it about rain on a trailer roof that is so damn soothing ? You could lay there all night and listen to that sound. Our dogs go NUTS ! when they see us loading up the trailer.
Enjoy your new rig, you're gonna love the hell out of it.

So far I only fouled up one thing. Last night when i got here I lit the burner for the propane for the fridge. Not because I needed to, but because I wanted to see if it worked since I cooled the fridge on 120v at home, and 12v on the way here. Forgot to turn off the 120 and it just stopped working.

Shut it down and put it on 120v and the fridge is fine. Just shut that down earlier and did the propane thing again. All work fine. Stupid mistake though.

Well I got home late this morning and it was a wild success. Even though the weather didn't cooperate I loved every minute. The dog loved every minute. I thought it was a hoot listening to short wave radio and watching over the air TV on my laptop.

I was grinning ear to ear cooking breakfast.

And I'll tell you something else. I'm one of those guys who sleeps a couple hours, wakes up and sleeps a couple more.

I laid my head down about 9:30 last night and slept until 6:30 dead to the world. The fresh air, rain sounds........whatever. I feel like a million bucks today.

Remember, a cold, wet day camping is better than a warm, dry day at home or work![emoji16]
