First long road trip

We are taking our first long road trip. Headed from western central Missouri to Carlisle, Ky (Blue Licks Battlefield Campground for a family reunion). It's about a 10 hour drive and planning to split it into 2 days. Looking to stay at either a Pilot Travel Center in Mount Vernon (IL) or a Cracker Barrel.

For the last 12 years all our camping excursions have been mainly with in a 2 ½ hour drive. So not much long haul experience.

With all that said, any tips from the veteran road warriors?

Make sure the Pilot is a former (have they been rebranded?) Fling J. Mosto f the Pilots you have to park with the big rigs and then you listen to engines all night. Flying Js have separate RV parking.

Personally, I'd do the 10 hour trip in smaller bites (2-3 hours then break, repeat) in one day and get to the campground sooner rather than staying in a parking lot use the extra day at camp to relax and recover from the day before.

The trip there needs to be an over nighter some where. We're leaving after work Wednesday. We want to put a few hours behind us, park for the night and then hit the road early the next morning. Coming back, we have more time.
