Those are all useful apps, but I also keep a simple 4X6 index card in a storage pocket of my truck. It has only 5 must-do items as a last minute reminder and I always refer to it right before I put her in Drive. It's saved my tail a time or two!

Yes, mine is a complete walk around and recheck of everything just before we leave, to make sure everything is tied down and closed up - and hooked up and unhooked!

Yep - KOA Toronto North (Cookstown). Pretty quiet here at the moment.

We are at the KOA Toronto North (Cookstown, Ontario). The truck towed like a champ - gotta love a Cummins. Plus with the Blue Ox SwayPro the highways were a breeze - no issues at all with passing semis etc.

I thought it looked familiar. We did the Canada day week there last year. Decent campground, but it was very wet the week we stayed. A lot of sites had a few cm of standing water in them. Kids loved being able to do all the 'Toronto' things though, Zoo, CN Tower, Science Centre, etc...

Great to see you finally got a chance to use it. From your previous posts its been fairly obvious you've been really itching to get out there.

This is my fourth year doing this but first season in a fifth wheel. I'm a newbie all over again. I've snapped off cabinet doors in the kitchen island because I didn't realize they were open when I brought in the slide.

The dinette slide wouldn't come in all the way because I didn't realize I had left a drawer open that was stopping the slide. Had to fix the drawer. I've had a couple of kitchen utensils rattle into the wrong place at the wrong time when I opened a slide after a long tow.

I drowned my cell phone because I foolishly placed it in the basement platform then didn't realize the washer had fallen out of the water hose connection, spraying water everywhere after I opened the CG spigot.

My checklist is a living, breathing, ever-expanding document.

Great looking rig... enjoy!!

First time ever camping - so far so good.

Or a narrow gate because you misjudged a turn. Especially annoying when you did it right the first time!

EDIT: DW’s helpful comment afterwards. “I told you, you’re going too fast!”

My UNTHINKING retort. “Not out loud.” Two mistakes in quick succession.

Great setup and beautiful weather. One thing I learned early on was not accepting help from others while breaking down and getting underway. I find that we all have our routines that we've established over time. When someone interrupts our routines we have a tendency to forget things and make mistakes. I usually say thanks but I have everything covered. Another thing DW and I have recently done is use our cell phones when she is directing me into a site. My phone is on bluetooth in the truck and her's is hand held. This way of communicating avoids having to raise one's voice. Works great.

The cell phone method works great IF you are in a an area that has coverage. This may not be the case if you find yourself way out in the boonies. Pick yourself up a pair of 2 way radios.

I tried that once. Took a couple shots of moonshine before I was finished setting up. Yelled at the grandkids, went to bed at 4:00PM, and never did finish setting up. So I HAVE to set up first before imbibing...

Capt104- really nice setup. Hope you have a blast!

Home safe and sound. Getting prepped for the return trip was much faster than set up - but we still took our time and did the “you check me and I will check you” thing, which worked great. Happy to report absolutely no issues with the camper at all. We got to check all the systems and had no failures, nothing leaking and nothing broken. Only thing that wasn’t great was the water pressure in the shower, but that sounds like a common thing - guess we will be shopping for a new shower head to help with that. We did come home with a list of “this will make life a little easier” type stuff - but all convenience items rather than essentials. So all in all we are very happy with how things went and it looks like we are sold on this RV thing.

That's excellent, the trips will get even more enjoyable as you go along.
Replacing the factory shower head is pretty much in the top five for quick and easy upgrades, there's a good bit of info in this blog that will help you with your selection.
