Flat Screen for Travel Trailers

I just purchased a Wildwood 21' and would like to install a flat screen. I was told to only use the Jensen models because they are built for travelling. Is that correct or was the salesman just feeding me high grade manure?

Bull. We currently have Toshiba and Vizio units in our MH. Have had Vizio in my three prior units also.

We have 1 Vizio, 1 Samsung and 1Toshiba all mounted in pur TT. Not a problem with any of them.

mine came with some weird brand i never heard of....it works fine..

i put it in the bedroom and put a slim frame 36" in the living room...vizio... it works fine...

i put a 22" sony in the bunkhouse..... it works fine

we carry a 55" sometimes to mount on the outside...we lay it flat on memory foam in the bedroom while traveling

......it works fine...

i leave em all in the trailer all winter long with no special prep or storage....

i have a 36" vizo on my outdoor home patio that has been there for 6 years......its under the patio roof, so no direct elements...but it sits out in the humidity, heat, cold, dirt and has been fine thus far....it works fine...



the only difference i can see with an rv model that may make it better is if it ran on 12 volt....so you didnt need an inverter if you didnt have shore or genny power..

$440 for the a Jensen 26"+ $28 for the ACDC converter makes it very expensive.

see...and i think the 12 volt models are more expensive by nature.......BUT can be a nice feature to have as i mentioned before...

I've had dynex, polaroid, lg, sanyo and Toshiba. Never a problem with any. My brothers Laredo came with Jensen and its been fine too. Just mount it good or protect it while traveling so it doesn't get tossed around.

Get a regular TV and a small Pure sine inverter, MUCH more versatile and cheaper.

32in Samsung TV - 33 watts AC

32in Jensen 12 volt - 90w (7.5 amps) DC

Sony blueray player - 5 watts AC

Phillips sound bar - 20 watts AC

Total AC watts = 60 watts AC which is .5 amps AC or about 5 amps (not including the inverter conversion efficiency) In my application this system uses 7.1 amps of DC running the TV, DVD and Soundbar.

I posted this on another thread. Current TV's draw very little.

A 400w inverter is cheap, plugs into a cig lighter (get a good one) and works great

Same thing here. Just grabbed a 24" from Black Friday at best buy- 8 watts. Blue Ray player- 4 watts. 400w invertor hard wired to 12v. I went with a smaller TV due to weight. Didn't want a 30lb TV bouncing up and down on wall mount.

ditto....i run all of mine plus sat on the verter....

i have a 1k watt hard wired in

the 12v tvs woulda been easier initially, but i would rather have the inverter...

modern electonics are much better on consumption...

heck even my f250 came with an inverter (150watt) wired right into the back of the console...ive ran a tv off of that!!i dont know what the quality of power it puts out is but it works...

The way I figure it, many of these TV's spend a lot of time hanging out in warehouses and shipping containers with no heat or a/c. And all of them get hauled around in trucks-many times being handled pretty rough. Therefore, I don't think being in the camper is a big deal.

This is true.

I onced picked up a trailer for the walmart dc in Mount Pleasant Iowa in chicago in mid February that had been there since December.

Also if you ever drive behind a super walmart and see all those shipping containers in the middle of winter thats where you'll find tv's and electronics.

Ive left my tv's in my camper on the wall since 2005 and not had an issue.

Today it's -14.

I have a 24" GPX (cheap brand}. Been hauling it around now for over two years., no problems. I do turn the heater on when temps go below 28 for the LCD tv and the other things inside. For travel, I lay it screen down on the foam topper.

I have had several brands of TV's in campers with no problems. I now have a 26-inch Jensen (not 12V) because it came from the factory with my current camper. No problems with the Jensen, either. I think they claim the Jensens are better engineered for bouncing around in campers, but only time will tell about that, I guess.
