Flying the flag on Memorial Day at home or Camp site
Memorial Day is one of the few holidays the federal government sets aside as an official time for everyone to fly the flag.
Flying the flag on Memorial Day is different than flying it on Independence day. This is a memorial holiday so the flag needs to be flown at half-staff – but only for part of the day.
Here's the scoop according to the US Flag Code:
Th...e US Flag Code: Position and Manner of Display (section m) says the flag should be flown at half-staff on Memorial Day until noon. After noon, it is then raised to the top until it is taken down:
"The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day. On Memorial Day the flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon only, then raised to the top of the staff"
Ok, for all our campers........what happens if you only have a flag pole that attaches to the house,TT and cannot lower it...
I had to look it up as i was not sure......
The code of conduct to follow says: If you don’t have a flagpole and mount your flag on a short pole against a wall or fence, you can still display a symbol of mourning by attaching a black ribbon or streamer to the top of the flagstaff.
