Free Parking Etiquette???
Pulled into a casino rv parking lot in Oregon today. They provide a nice lot for RV's and allow up to 5 nights stay.
Some however just park as they please without thought. Here's two trailers that are taking up 10 spaces. The small trailer is towed by a Suburban that left just before the picture was taken.
Other 5th wheels are backed in with their rear ends hanging over the edge of the lot and TV parked next to it for a total of only 2 spaces.
Mine is also backed in but my slide takes some of the space next to me. Last time I stayed here a van camper parked next to my truck and had plenty of room.
Wondering if people bother to think of others in these free lots?
By nightfall the lot will be full with people having to move on due to lack of space that could be available if some etiquette was observed.

We haven't gotten ours yet, and even I know not to do stuff like that. Apparently they haven't watched one of the dozens of videos on YT about parking lot etiquette.

These may be owners that aren't good at backing up. Was this the free lot at 7 Feathers? When we stay there, the security staff would make them move and park properly.

Apparently security is lax now. I'm on my way North now but on way South the same type of parking was going on with single rigs taking up many more than even two spaces which seems to be the norm for rigs with slides on both sides. I wouldn't even bother with my slide for a single night but I can't lower my murphy bed with it in and my couch is one foot too short[emoji51]

I would have to open two slides to go to bed but would pick a spot where it would not be an issue.

Honestly, I would look at those parking jobs and not think anything of it. It's a free lot, first come first serve. Some free lots are monitored for parking by RVs, some are not.
It's darn sure none of my business how they park and why would I let something like that get under my skin?
Are they being rude or just ignorant? Don't know, don't care. There seems to be no designated parking for RVs, so there is no right/wrong way. What makes sense to you might not even occur to someone else.
I'll just park where I think is best, and if they took all the spots, I'll go somewhere else.

Free Parking Etiquette???
It’s becoming quite common now a days for rude behavior and the all too common “I’m too important to follow the rules” attitude. Ignorance is not an excuse either. If these RV owners can’t back up then maybe they shouldn’t be RVing.
Supervised or unsupervised, free or not, there’s no reason to take up an excessive number of designated RV parking spaces. These spaces are obviously designed for single use RV and or tow vehicle use. Of course some overlap is necessary but what is shown in the pictures is certainly unnecessary.

They probably figured there was nobody else there and all those spots were up for grabs, just inconsiderate.

Our bed is in the slide so we do open our slide at night. At these places we spend a lot of time scouting for a site that takes up the least amount of space, such as open the slide over what I would call "neutral ground", the grassy area next to a curb.
Once we saw an 40ft bus towing a truck parked smack in the middle of a Walmart parking lot, took up lots of spaces, had several signs you are on camera, no trespassing, etc. That would be a reason for Walmart to cancel RV parking.

Honestly that's pretty bad for them to do.. but with that said you know your slide takes over the next spot so arent you just as bad? Imo you are. One spot one rv dont cross the line or it's a free for all. Plus it's free so what's the big deal?

I get what your saying about "it's free parking so don't worry about it and first come first served " but there is also a thing called courtesy. If I park in a public parking lot, I always park at the very far end of the lot away from everyone else and take as little space as possible. I only put out the slides I absolutely need and try to park where the slide is over a neutral area and not a parking space. Just my two cents!

Well, there are several ways to look at this, unfortunately the majority will get up on their high horse and condemn the 'offender' for being a jerk.
I have never seen parking lot types of supposed RV parking such as this one that actually held any RV within the lines. So unless you actually fit within the stripe length and keep the slides in, you will take up anywhere from 2 to 4 spaces.
Also, if the lot is actually full whenever you want to leave, good luck with that. You might have trouble getting your tow vehicle in to hook up, or you won't be able to clear your spot due to tailswing and your neighbor being too close. Or you will be blocked in.
So perhaps this 'offender' is experienced with this lot, planned to get there when it was empty and set up in a way that ensures he can get out when he wants. And then instructed his friend behind him to do the same.
Or maybe he did it just to cause some purists some grief, in which case, it did!

You can't fix stupid. If you need to put the slides back the trailer over the grass if there is no curb or at least up to the tires if curbed. Of course this requires knowing how to back in the first place.

Ordinary folks visiting Cracker Barrel will take up the 2-3 RV spots every one I go to. We don’t travel where we have to boondock so I don’t care where or how they park. Very seldom would we may pull into a parking lot while underway.

Think of others? Probably not.
It all depends on whether they'll be there overnight. When we had a small tt, frequently we'd disconnect like the one in the picture while we went to a local attraction. We'd either park properly or move on before the night. No hookups so we'd probably have moved on.

My take:
If this is a FREE lot and it's the property of the casino, and casino chooses not to conduct parking enforcement, then there are two choices...
A. Cope with it
B. Leave and go somewhere else

And if it's lawn mowing day, they will curse you for being inconsiderate.
Perspective..... Everyone's is a little bit different.
