Fridge concerns

My Dometic fridge does not seem to be working on electric power, even after being plugged in for several days. Do these fridges use refrigerant and if so, can it be recharged?

They use ammonia.

That I have no clue. I'm sure a camper service tech can do it. But if it leaked out. There must be a hole in system somewhere. This is not a high pressure system like on other AC units. There is no compressor unit.

First things first. Does it work on gas? If it is in fact dead you should have smelled amonia sometime. If it is dead then the only remidy is a new refer or a new cooling unit.

I am planning on trying it on gas next time I pop up. It was not acting right last trip out and thought perhaps it was because food wasn't chilled to start with, but was put in right after coming from store.
No smell of ammonia...

If the fridge works on propane, then it is not the refrigerant.....both gas and electric heat the same refrigerant.

1st, pull the outside cover and make sure the fridge is plugged in. Might want to check the plug with a tester to make sure you have current there. If no current there, then check the breaker to make sure that is on.

If that does't work, let us know and we can go from there....at least someone will, as that is about the limit of my fridge knowledge.

The unit heated up, but did not cool down inside the fridge, so that is what led me to think it was messed up.

I had a situation on our last camping trip where the unit stopped cooling on AC. I verified that the outlet was getting power but since I did not have any wiring diagrams or troubleshooting tools with me I switched it to propane and it worked fine. When I got home on Monday, I downloaded the wiring diagram and found that my DC power terminal block had some screw down terminals. I tightened those up and all has been good ever since. I should mention that the AUTO light was not illuminated prior to finding this. Since finding it, the light is on and the unit is cooling properly.
