Fried Brake controller

I was involved in a tire blowout which took out the plastic fender in my Flagstaff / Rockwood 206. i documented this recently on a thread in which someone had a similar experience. Anyhoo, after $2700 worth of wiring repairs, I took my trailer on an 1100 mile trip, in which the shoddy repairs literally unraveled themselves.

For instance, the repair guy tried to stuff 6 wires into a 2 inch wire nut, and had only stripped about 1/2 inch of insulation off of each wire. When I got to my destination, most of my systems didn't work IE, Toilet flush, heater, water pump, overhead lights.

My question is, is there a short in the trailer that could have taken out my brake controller? Because my brake controller is fried and according to the mechanic it also took out my brake light switch.

This is highly suspicious given the shoddy work and loose connections in the trailer. Coincidence? I think not. However I don't have the expertise to present a strong technical case to the repair shop. Can anyone explain or help me out?

Thanks.
