Furrion Backup Camera
Good Morning All, I am considering a Furrion backup camera for my 2015 Rockwood Signature Ultralight 8285IKWS 5th wheel RV. Do any of you have any experience with it (Model FOS48TA-BL). My RV came with the mounting bracket and prewired. I've talked with one other person who doesn't think a backup camera helps him when backing. I am interested in other experiences. It is an expensive piece of tech so want to be sure it is something that is worthwhile. Please share your experiences.

I can't speak about the brand, but last moterhome I had was a 37ft class A. The backup camera on it helped tremendously. It a nice wide field of view, and clear enough I could back up to trailers and the TV by myself without having to try multiple times. I've yet to add one to my 5ver but it's on the list.

I have the furrion back up on my camper. I find being able to see behind the camper as we go down the road a nice advantage. It does help when I need to change lanes or merge as I can see what vehicles are coming up on me and if there is an opening coming. As far as backing, the camera is great for determining how far past the site you are and whether you are lined up to begin to back up. after that, I usually have my family directing the back in, so I seem to forget the camera is even there.
it is just about useless in the rain though, can't see worth a dang with all the water spray on the lens. i thought as high up as it is on the camper it would not suffer this, but it does.....
i like it, would i buy it again.. yes.

I picked up the Furrion from Amazon in May and I do love it. I just got back Fri night from a 1000 mile round trip, solo. I was able to back on the site with no issues without a spotter. On the way home, I also left it on to use as an aid to see behind me for lane changes or if someone was tucked up tight to me in traffic. This is my first trailer and only had it since April. I would go for it. Install is simple, just have to turn on your lights to activate the camera. I leave mine on when running anyway on trips.

Biggest down side I see is the receiver screen is to small other than that i agree with the rest of the folks in how I use and how well it operates. Later RJD

If you are thinking about buying it then buy it. I picked one up from Amazon.com. It took about 7 minutes to install. I went with my 7 year old son camping (the reason I got it is because I was only with him). Worth every penny. I was able to back up straight on the first shot in a hairy spot and I put my rig within 6" of a tree branch while backing. The observation mode while driving is a plus.
Don't listen to the people who complain about the size of the monitor. You don't need a 100" Samsung mounted on your windshield to see.

My Flagstaff TT came prewired for the Furion camera. One problem was that the wire wasn't crimped well behind the mount and I had to pull the mount and connect the wire.
Im usually solo when I set up and it makes life much easier to get into the spot. Also, I'm usually on 2 lane roads so it lets me know if I have traffic behind me. I like to pull over if I'm holding up too many cars. The one trip Ive taken where I used the freeway, it was really nice for lane changes. The wide angle lens does make things look farther away than they are. The graduated distance lines on the screen do make it nice though.
The one issue I had was that the suction mount wouldn't work with the angle of my windshield. I had to order a beanbag mount to set it on the dash. That also makes it easy to remove it without making a dirty spot on the glass. That makes DW happy!
I bought mine (FOS48TA) for $327 with free shipping from Big Discount RV | Low Priced Parts & Accessories for your RV

Say that when you get older. No not 100 inch but a nice 9inch would be better than the 3x5 now Later RJD

Furrion Wireless Camera
We recently purchased a new travel trailer and bought the camera to go with it. When we tried it at home we got a brief picture and then it went out. I've read the little manual that came with it and unpaired it and we've tried to pair it several times to no avail. I've contacted the company and am waiting for a call back, but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so - how did you get it fixed? Thanks.

I just installed one on my Rockwood 8329SS which came prewired. Had to hook up to Tow Vehicle (TV) to get power and pair it up. The book says depending on your trailer they come prewired differently. Some hot all the time, some to running lights and some to backup lights. Mine was to running lights. Going to rewire to hot all the time with a switch. Want to be able to use it when not hooked to TV.

Furrion Backup Camera
Not sure what type of trailer you have but if it is one of the metal ones that may be blocking the signal from getting to the receiver. You might want to buy an antenna extension cable to move the antenna to the front of your trailer to see if that helps.

I bought a 7 pin socket and jumpered the 12 Vdc(pin 4) to the running lights (pin 3). I use it to have the running lights on when set up but it also powers up the camera.

I use a 10 amp standard fuse twisting the metal tabs to fit in trailers 7 way for the same effect. But it is also fuse protected. FREE, well if you have fuse laying around.

Those are both good ideas and a quick fix. Had not thought about doing it that way. Thanks

If your Rockwood came with the camera mount, then this is the one that fits in the mount. The model that the OP posted is discontinued and replaced by this one.
https://www.amazon.com/Furrion-72912...3353740&sr=8-1
The Amazon page offers 3 different size monitors.

Forest River Electronics has the 4.3" model on sale for $250. Shipping was $25 to California, but it was still a great deal at a total of $275.
https://www.forestriverelectronics.c.../fos43tasf.htm
I received it within a week of ordering.
