Gas can?
I need a good gas can to bring for my generator and an easy way to store it. I heard the metal Jerry cans are good; I'm having trouble finding metal ones that look decent..
What are the best options (with links if possible?) and where is everyone storing it on a fifth wheel RV?
Thanks!

If I was hauling gas, I would carry it in the bed of the truck, where it can breath safely.
I am planning to haul a couple of cans for diesel for the truck and will put those in the nose compartment of the 5er.

I'm picking up the RV later this week but - can one safely haul a jerry can gas can in the bed of a truck (or for that matter anything else) with a fifth wheel RV?

I haul a gas can in the bed of my truck every time I take the generator. No big deal. I just use a red plastic gas can.

I haul my generator and a couple gas cans (along with lots of other stuff) in my truck bed often when towing our 5th wheel.

I love this one. I keep it filled with ethanol free gas from the local landscaping place.

I use this, the spout and rear handle are great for filling my Hondas. My complaint is that the container is so thin it balloons in the heat badly.

After six years of continuous use it still performs flawlessly. Nice to be able to place the can in a stable spot, move the flexible spout to the fill opening then start and control the flow of gas with the top lever.

I have an Eagle brand 5g safety can. Doesn't need the goofy safeties that come with the plastic jugs. Available on Amazon and other sellers.

Just press the button to let the air out.
I really like these "No Spills".
We carry three of the 2.5 Gal ones in the truck bed.
Also, the spout is self stopping like at the gas stations.

I agree the benefits out way the downside. The expansion while sitting the garage concerns me (given the cost of this can). I have plastic storage containers from the 1980's that are engineered in ways that this doesn't happen.
As a aside I carry my gen gas in the bed of the tow vehicle.

I have a gas container just like this. I deal with the expansion issue by squeezing the sides against side of pickup bed while holding calve open. Then let valve close. This allows for expansion without ballooning container.
Another method I've used is to just "burp" container on a cold morning.
Never been a problem with leaking.
For my extended boondocking trips i carry 2-5gal and one 2-1/2 gal tank. Also a battery operated transfer pump to refill small can that's used to fill generator.

If you want a really sturdy gas container check out Rotopax. All the Jeep guys use them. I got a 2 gallon one and mounted on the front frame of the trailer. It is really thick and strong.

Buy any gas can you want, spend as much or as little as you desire, then throw away all the safety crap on it. Install this kit and enjoy!

Just be aware... EZ-Pour makes two different diameter spouts!
I find the large one OK for filling bull dozers, front end loaders and heavy equipment but the liquid comes out way too fast for generators and lawn mowers. Make sure you get the smaller diameter one for those jobs.

I recently had to replace the gaskets on my spouts and bought some solid caps to keep on the cans instead of the spouts since they were hitting my truck cover when I would retract it.

The original post was asking about WWII/Korean war metal jerry cans.
Not a single response about where to get one so we gotta guess they are not made any more.
Did you try Army surplus stores??
