We were pretty close to $5 in a lot of places in Ca as of last fall. Most stations won't let you buy more than 150.00 at a time, so I was using two cards to fill on our last trip.
The geniuses that run this state had already added more tax when the prices went down during the lockdown, so as soon as we exit the state we pay 1.50 a gallon less.
Gas was 6.39 in Grover beach for regular last week.
Costco is 5.39 today.

Even if you take your card inside? Usually you can fill up that way.
California has a tax for almost everything. Sad part is all the waste and squandering. Not to mention billions lost to fraudulent unemployment claims from foreign countries.

Arkansas is super conservative (opposite of CA) and has a tax for everything.

I've got a 3000 mile round trip drive to WDW in Orlando coming up in a few weeks. I booked this trip last fall long before the current fuel price spike. I am budgeting $6 per gallon for diesel at 12 MPG for a total approximate fuel cost of $1500 for the trip. I probably would have held off if I had any clue that WWIII would break out.

I honestly can't think of a single place I shop at that doesn't take Discover.
I know there was a small Chinese restaurant near me that didn't take it a few years ago but they changed their minds apparently.
I also know one other restaurant that gives you a discount on using cash vs. any sort of credit card but that's about it.
Even Aldi's which was notoriously anti-credit for a long time have gone to taking all credit cards. Which I just recently found out.

It is.
And if you click the link you'll see that between April and June you can use your Discover card to get 5% of your purchases at gas stations.

We always used just one credit card and that was to get miles for travel. Well since overseas travel is now out the window for us, and we will be concentrating on US travel with our TT, we just yesterday went and got a Costco card. So the mileage card will still be used, but only for auto-pay things (utilities, etc), and the Costco will be used for everyday purchases. Another nice feature of the Costco card is extending any manufacturer warranties by 2 years - and it doen't even have to be items purchased from Costco.
Costco card benefits:
4% cash back on eligible gas worldwide for the first $7,000 per year then 1% thereafter.
Plus
3% cash back on restaurants and eligible travel purchases worldwide.
2% cash back on purchases from Costco and Costco.com.
1% cash back on all other purchases.

In my area, not many businesses take Discover or American Express. At least you don't see the stickers on the door with the Visa and MC stickers. I cancelled those cards years ago due to that.
Also more and more local businesses either don't accept any credit card, or charge you the processing fee for using one. They are tired of paying the fees. I had to learn to write checks again!!!!
I started using my Carecredit card for everything I can. With the points we earn, we get $100 back about every 6 weeks.
Every little bit helps with increases in fuel and everything else.

Come out West and you'll even see prominent signs on credit card machines saying "No Discover or Amex" cards.
Most gas stations will take any credit card but most now charge a premium of $0.10 per gallon for the privilege.

But a 4% discount from using the card is obviously a better deal. Most stations where I live don’t offer a cash discount anyway. Actually our lowest priced stations don’t have a different cash price. Lots of variables leaving the to choice to the savvy consumers.

If you read post 321 I already mentioned when the Discover gas discount was applicable.

I have a care credit card but it just sits in a stack of cards I don’t use. Never knew they offered credits of sort. Do they actually give cash back? Is there some special requirements for the usage of the credits.
One thing I use AE card for is to autopay cellular for a discount. I don’t carry it either.

Same here. I just snapped two pics of the gas station across from my shop where the sign alternates prices between cash and credit ...of 10 cent difference.

Most of our upscale hotels will take Discover or AMEX, but gas stations, retail and grocery stores, nope.
