If gas prices go too high, or gasoline becomes scarce, we may see these make a comeback:
During WWII, when gas was rationed, these "Gasifiers" aka Charcoal Burners, showed up on cars, trucks, and buses in many countries.

Where do you live ?
It's been too high all my life. 60 years.
You must be wealthy.

My father worked in the tank arsenal all during WWII, he was given a gas allotment, blackout lights and a tire allotment. He knew a few people that had those units. Hopefully we aren’t going that far.

Mostly for inside truck beds today with most cars only having pseudo bumpers.
The benefit of having a credit card that gives 4-5% cash back is higher prices means more back! What about the other 95%? Well the old saying is you can’t have everything.

I needed to fill the Jeep today. Gas at Costco was $4.089 with at least a hour long line.
I went to Harris Teeter and with my fuel points (100), I paid $4.099 and no wait. Wait an hour to save a penny a gallon? No way.

Wonder how much gas is burned while waiting in line for an hour?

I paid 4.89 for diesel the other day. And that was in Carson City, NV, which is usually on the cheaper side price wise. Then went to Reno yesterday and it was the same - 4.89. Reno is in Washoe County and is always at least .10 higher than where I live. Not sure why it is now the same here other than they figure they can now get the higher price. (God knkows how much it is today.)
That said, the wife and I have a trip to Grand Canyon in April, and Glacier NP in late August. We had to cancel our 30th anniversery 2 week European river cruise due to COVID. And since we declined to get "The Jab", (thank God) it looks like we will not be going back overseas. We decided to spend our time and money seeing more of the US. If we don't do it now, we never will, since we are on the downhill side of 60. Just going to bite the bullet and enjoy the time we have left. Between those 2 trips we will be taking a number of shorter local camping trips throughout the summer. Lucky for us, we are 4800' at the base of the eastern Sierra in Northern Nevada, so we have amazing camping within an hour or so in all directions.

Discover does on certain things and it changes every few months. Like currently it's on Grocery Stores and Fitness Club & Gym Memberships.
In April it switches over to gas stations and Target stores.
In July it will be restaurants and Paypal.
I believe there are websites out there that allow you to compare the rewards of different credit cards if you are looking for a new one.

Gotta pay to play as they said when I owned a European sports car that cost $700 for an oil change and brake flush. I found an interesting article on import/export of domestic oil and resulting prices. Seems we ship some out because we have more of that particular type of crude, or we import what we don't have enough of. Depends on what the end product demand is.

In time the rest of the world will adjust who they buy oil from and what types.
There are signs this is already happening. Also signs that the usual players in the oil market will adjust their policies to adjust to the current situation.

Only have reservations for a campground only 30 minutes or so away from where my camper is parked this year because of gas prices. Reservations every other weekend tho from April til Rocktober and some 6-7 night stays. It's my favorite campground so it's OK. Sacrifices.

Our only redeeming issue is that 99% of our outings center around sport and subsistence fishing. Even with the increase in fuel costs we can keep the freezer full and still come out ahead. We haven't bought fish/seafood/shellfish in the store in over 25 years.

Most of the time we can't fill the motor home in Ca unless it's got close to a half tank anyway.
We were pretty close to $5 in a lot of places in Ca as of last fall. Most stations won't let you buy more than 150.00 at a time, so I was using two cards to fill on our last trip.
The geniuses that run this state had already added more tax when the prices went down during the lockdown, so as soon as we exit the state we pay 1.50 a gallon less.
Gas was 6.39 in Grover beach for regular last week.
Costco is 5.39 today.

We took a short drive a few days ago (110 miles one way) and the cheapest we saw diesel was $6.19. Loves and Flying J were $6.54. We are looking forward to our planned 5000 mile trip in June to get out of California and purchase fuel at a discount!

We moved to a different campground today and in the 1+ hour drive we passed (or was passed by no less than 30 R/Vs on this Sunday morning.
On I-75 in FL, all three lanes in both directions was pretty much bumper to bumper traffic. No one seems to be minding the $4.30 per gallon here.
