Gas problems

Anybody on the road can comment on the current fuel situation?

We're leaving the Tampa Bay area Wednesday AM returning to MD, up the I-95 corridor.

No problems at all getting fuel in the Tampa area, but there are reports of big fuel problems in Pensacola and Tallahassee for some strange reason. I can't figure that one out.

Interested in Jacksonville, SC, NC and VA reports along I-95.

If it's really bad it would be better for us to stay put down here where there is gas but it's starting to get hot [emoji91]

One of the largest pipeline operator in the East was hacked by a Russian group of hackers.

They shut down the pipelines shipping 45% of East Coast Oil with a Ransome-Ware attack. Some estimates are up to a week before normal deliveries. Fed's are mobilizing emergency transport and relaxing "rules" so at least fuel can travel by tanker trucks, etc.

Some stations in central Virginia are already out and some that still have gas are raising prices drastically

Ah.............an idea for my next novel. Russian mob takes the heat and doesn't know what to do about it when the US threatens retaliation against them while all the while its really a West Texas oil cabal attempting to manipulate the price of oil and strike at the heart of liberal America.

Some NC cities were without gas today (Tuesday). Heard from my friend who was towing his camper to the western part of the state, stopped in Asheville and could not find gas, even with Gas Buddy.

Could not get to his destination but luckily found a place to spend the night because campgrounds were reportedly having cancellations due to the gas situation.

Not trying to fan the flames of panic; just suggesting folks check the availability of fuel along their intended route until the Colonial Pipeline issues are resolved.

Some NC areas seemed to have gas. Others did not. My friend was told it could be a couple of days before he gets more where he is.

I'm on hold now in Tampa Bay area trying to get back to MD.

Seems like enough gas here and my tank is full. But from what I can see, no gas at all in the Carolinas and Southern Virginia.

So looks like I'll stay put for a while longer.

Wasn't our plan. We're out on our inaugural run of our new 2068bs that was going perfectly until this.

Since my tanks are full I should be fine to get to the beach a few times and to the stores and restaurants. Tampa gets it's gas from the port but once I leave, I'm cut off.

It's the same thing that always happens in situations like this. It isn't the pipeline that is the actual problem. It's panic buying. Just like toilet paper a few month ago.

Reports say 10% of gas stations are out of gas. Well....that means that 90% of them aren't.

Flying J has a web site that list what they have, you just got to pick your stations, most if not all in some states have gas per there site.

I have a work colleague who was returning to Charleston, SC from Wilmington, NC and was unable to find gas until Myrtle Beach - and then he claimed to have been there for an hour and only managed to pump 24 cents. He's very angry because he's a property assessor and if he can't travel, he can't work.

I agree with an earlier post panic buying. I don’t blame people though it’s nature. You know your gonna need gas by the end of the week you just don’t know if there is going to be gas WHEN you need it. So you see people getting gas you see long lines you panic more.

Living in the Piedmont of NC, I can attest that stations are running out quickly. Many are closed and the lines are long.

Will say though, COVID still has many people working from home so the gas shortage is less of an impact and supplied gas longer than if everyone was going into the office.

Wake up call (again) to America to show just how fragile our infrastructure is.

“Panic buying” may contribute slightly to the issue, but not really that much, and would be a temporary blip. Unlike the toilet paper you mention, you can only buy so much gas, as your vehicle only holds so much. You can fill your entire house with TP, but if you have a 30 gallon tank you can only fit 30 gallons in it!

Buying gas when you have a half tank today vs buying gas next week when your tank is empty doesn’t increase the amount of gas you buy, and I doubt anyone is purposely using more gas than usual during a perceived shortage.

That's exactly what panic buying is. Folks who might not buy gas until next week or even the day after tomorrow are suddenly wanting a full tank TODAY. If everyone in town suddenly decided to fill up on the same day it would run a lot of stations empty even IF the tankers were still delivering.

It's reportedly only affecting the southeast, as far west as Alabama and Tennessee but not into the Ohio Valley.
