Golf carts?

So I decided to venture somewhere unknown this weekend, to the neighboring state of Kentucky to Kentucky Dam SP.

While I've seen the occasional golf cart around the country (mostly camp hosts/ workers), this is the first time I've been somewhere where almost every single camper has brought one or more carts with them (requiring multiple vehicles since I don't see any toy haulers) and spends a great deal of time riding around the grounds. I mean, it's a THING here, young and old alike. The kids especially love driving them around like go- carts. At the check- in desk, there's a sign on the register saying carts require a $25 weekly permit to operate on the grounds.

It's interesting to note different customs like that in various locales. Anybody else as in to golf carts while camping as these folks?

We're camping in South Carolina (we live in Georgia) and they're as common here at Oconee State Park as cars and trucks are. As I'm typing this we've had three of them pass our site

Many parks we have been to, if they allow carts at all, require operators to have driver's license, which keeps children from driving them around. A good idea imo.

I'd rather walk around a campground than ride. Had a close call with my heart and I learned that exercise is good for you.

As for the kids running around with them all day, that could get annoying.

Yes I use to like to walk the camp grounds but no longer can due to arthritis in my ankle so now I ride my Cricket around the grounds. Later RJD

I get the arthritis part. It's starting to catch up with me too. But neither of us are kids just riding around in circles in the campground.

That must be an East Coast thing. I've only seen golf carts in maybe three camp grounds, used by the hosts. Heck in most of the places I stay at the campground staff uses a truck to get around ....

We camp in Florida it is a popular thing here. Yes we walk the dogs a lot so we are not being lazy. To us it is just a good time to cruise around and check out the site.Click image for larger version

We're headed to Willow Tree in three weeks and Ocean Lakes the following week. We wouldn't dare leave our golf cart at home. Its almost as important as the camper.

Not seeing many in our state parks in Nebraska, but at the seasonal lease CG's, you'll see more carts than cars driving around. PLEASE ! don't let your kids drive them around the CG's. A seasonal CG outside of town reported last week that 3 newer truck and 2 campers were heavily damaged by two 12 year olds driving around the park in a golf cart. Co-worker had a hole punched into the side of his trailer that destroyed the city water/gravity fill/ outdoor shower, tore one of jacks off and moved the trailer about 3 ft.

I'm seriously considering a toy hauler for my next camper so I can more easily take the goodies along. I've got a motorcycle that's suffering a lot of neglect lately, and I often try to take the bikes, kayaks, and fishing poles, but sometimes they get left behind due to lack of space, along with the generator and tote tank. At the very least I think I need a camper shell with a rack on top.

In my neck of the woods, you're more likely to see more of any of the above items, along with atv's, than you are golf carts. I can certainly see the benefits of having one though. Makes beer/ ice runs easier

Here is a webcam mounted at the top of Ocean Lakes' waterslide. Look to the left of the water park. A line of parked golf carts. Just past that line of carts as the road turns to the right are probably twice as many carts as what you can see on the left. Easily over 100 carts just parked at the water park area. Far more just cruising around.

Definitely not an East Coast thing. Here in the mid-west nearly every CG I've been to allows them. I can only think of a couple that don't.

They are nice when visiting friends around the CG. Especially if you want to bring chairs, coolers, etc...

They are also nice to have when running the garbage down to the dumpsters which are across the campground.

How are most of you transporting your golf carts in your travels? I see some in the back of pick-ups and even overhanging on the tail gate. Is your primary RV large enough for towing a loaded truck and cart?
Do some of you RENT carts while staying in an area for awhile? Some rallies have that as an option.

Flamingo Lake in Jacksonville has a lot of Golf Carts. On holiday weekends a local golf cart company brings them to the park and rents them. We have been to a few parks that also rent them.

Just checked out the web cam I think there's been a few carts in every shot. We'll be down there next week but not with the camper, we'll have our cart though but I doubt you'll be able to see us on the cam, it's camouflaged

Camping at Lake Rudolph next to Holiday World right now and they only allow rental carts here. Highest number we saw so far was 108 so at $45 a day for a 4 seater and $65 for a 6 seater they are making enough money per day to add at least one a day to their fleet, I think we must be the only ones that walk.
