Good outcome from camper fire

This article details the fire and the aftermath, good story. I believe the smoke detectors would have worked. IMO, when they opened the outside door additional oxygen was provided to the fire and allowed it to take off. Had the door not been opened smoke would have set off the detectors before the fire got to them. They may have had to bail out the windows, but I think they would have survived. Hmmmm, three smoke detectors, and one "on the floor" by the bedroom? Tendrils of smoke inside? No mention of any CO detectors. The story lacks some details.
