Got carried away with the blue foam.

My E-Pro comes with a mini outside fridge which is cool but I will never use it.I have seen people remove the fridge and put the generator there.I like this but the gen I have was used and a craigslist purchase and after buying and loading it in the back of the Toyota I could smell hints of gas on the drive home.

Today I set out to combat the minor gas fumes released buy the Gen.As we all know (new to me) the storage compartments are really just part of the interior with no real separation from the living compartment.

This is what I ended up with, more space in the rear and 2 better sealed compartments. This in turn isolated the water heater (far left) from the whole rear of the trailer so I am thinking better efficiency.

The moving blanket and the carpet in the Gen compartment are meant to absorb fumes I am thinking I can replace them randomly depending on smell.

Note: I will not run the gen in the compartment and I will only put the gen in the compartment after a few hours of cool down.

Surely the gen unit has a fuel cut-off switch. If not then put in a fuel petcock in the fuel line. I have bought them off amazon or hardware store with small engine repair. As you shut down the gen turn off the fuel and run the carb dry as that is usually where the fumes come from. Maybe duct tape some saran wrap over the fuel cap also. Put entire unit in a plastic trash bag and close it up.

Yes, that gen has a fuel cutoff. There is a position just before ioff to set the switch and it will cut off the fuel supply. Once the gen stops turn the switch to off and no fuel will run to the carb.

Im not sure that is where the fuel smell comes from though. It may be the fuel cap. Check the gaskets.

Good Idea on the heavy trash bag I will do that just cause it is easy adds another layer.

I went through the paper owners manual no official setting to cutoff fuel and let run to empty the float bowl. The float bowl does have a drain screw and a hose out the bottom to drain it manually. I do know what you are talking about though I took all the covers off when I got it and went over the systems. There is a fuel cut off attached to the Dial along with a spark ground micro switch.I will turn the dial to find the spot the valve closes but not far enough to hit the kill switch. I just ran across a guy who added a manual kill switch so he could do this exact thing.

Follow up on the fuel cut off switch. I tried to turn the dial to see if I could run it out of fuel before it hit the shutoff but no luck.I disconnected the micro switch and wired in a momentary contact push button.

You will likely get a fuel smell from the vented gas cap. The bouncing around will make it worse. You could try putting a small plastic bag under the cap but remember to remove it before you run it.

If the generator is releasing gas fumes you may want to try and vent them as they will destroy that blue foam in a matter of months!

Gas fumes =fire hazard triggered by water heater.

The water heater was one of the reasons I separated the rear in to 3 compartments. The spark and flame of the water heater seem to actually be outside in the side cover but you never know.

I have set the gen up to run the fuel out of the float bowl now so I will just have the gas in the tank and the cap does have a on/off switch for the vent.

Adding the plastic bag and I will add a drip pan also just in case something lets loose on the way. I have a suv so it is in the camper or the back of the Toyota.
