Has anybody seen this?

I was thumbing through the Forest River manual and it states that there is a weight limit for a bumper.
Does anybody know where the weight is posted?

A google search yielded this:

While some trailer owners have successfully added weight to their bumpers, it is still NOT recommended whatsoever. As mentioned before, most travel trailer bumpers can hold up to 300 lbs of weight. This will vary depending on the kind of travel you have, but it likely won't be more than the maximum of 300 pounds.

Did you read what I posted from their manual?
My question has nothing to do with what your talking about.

I would never put more than a spare tire on a bumper.
I can't answer your question but RV makers put stickers everywhere.
They have stickers telling you to check lug nuts, tire pressure, weight limits for cargo etc.
But I have never seen a sticker about bumper weight capacity.

I feel the same way.
It's like any manual.
My truck manual say one thing about this than about that and you turn pages till your blue in the face.
Forest River just puts a statement out there but no real info.

You know I think I would have responded with thanks for the info but I was looking to find where the Mfg actually post the limits.

Here is my answer to you I don't believe you will find that posted in the Mfg data provided to the consumer and is more of a CYA for them. JMHO

That came out of the manual that came with my trailer.

There is no "one size fits all" answer to the question. There are many factors that figure into a weight limit as well as many locations for the sticker. Some are on the bumper itself mine is on the body near the bumper ( photo attached). You need to be careful when reviewing responses as what may work for a large 5er will not work for an ultra lite or a PUP.

We have a cargo rack on the rear of our 26 DBH with a sticker on it specifying a weight limit of 200 pounds. The spare tire is mounted on the rack which doesn't leave a lot of room for anything really heavy like a generator. A large cooler and some moderate weight items would be OK, but I would not feel good about anything heavier.

Our Surveyor came with this "Tail Gate Storage System". From the factory.

It is rated to hold 250 lbs. The unit itself weighs about 75 lbs. I have never put more than 150 lbs on it. Most of the weight actually sits on 2 rubber bumpers that sit on the trailers bumper.

The frame, bumper and the rack were all made by Lippert. Hopefully they did a proper engineering evaluation. Yeah I know, this the RV industry.

Your mileage may vary.

My vcross had a factory installed rack and a do not exceed 200 pounds. The Heritage Glen I have now just says don’t attach anything to the bumper that was not factory installed. The bumpers are exactly the same so I expect FR is doing a bit of CYA. Use good judgement and remember a portion of the weight on the bumper will lighten the tongue weight.

This is just from my experience on how I modified my bumper. I carry two Honda generators, one on each corner on trays that I made up. They sit mostly on top of the bumper and are directly on top of the rear support tube. I also have a metal milk crate for fuel can and blocking sitting on top of the bumper tube attached with U-bolts. The spare is carried in the truck bed.
There are people who have tried those bolt on recievers with a bike carrier and that just makes a cantilevered wreck when you consider how far aft the leverage is the most.

If you bother to take a good look at welds that attach the 4" steel tube you will think twice about adding any more weight on it without frame attached reinforcements.

When I had warranty issues with my floor, one of the first questions they asked me was. Are you caring any weight on your trailer bumper and if so how much weight. After that all I carry is spare and a light rack caring 5 plastic camp eating tables.

While I understand your sentiment on his response, I can also see his point in his response. He was asking a legitimate question from the FR manual to which he was looking for an actual helpful answer and instead he got a, “ A google search yielded this…. Just use the search function on the top right of the page.” answer which was in all intents and purposes a BS answer as since it did not answer his question at all, nor even try to. So yes I can understand his snippiness in his reply, though it could have been a little more tactful.

Yes, personally, I wouldn't put anything heavier than the spare tire back there unless it's welded to the frame. The bumpers break off after a while. The steel is super thin and the flexing over time causes them to break.
