When I was scheduled for a two-procedure foot surgery on Oct. 30 and learned I would have to wear a walking boot 6 weeks, DW and I declared ourselves done for the season. So we got our winterization done. Now I’m even more thankful that’s behind us since I had an emergency appendectomy Thursday and now I feel like I fell off a 2 story house!

Thank you, sir. This morning I have to get myself in the car so DW can drive me to a podiatrist appointment to have the bandage removed from my foot the first time.

Mr. Dan,
So sorry to hear of such ailments! Wishing you a speedy recovery, and happy with you and for you that your winterization got done early.
We are a few steps south of you, in North Houston area, and we are doing ours today. True, we might be okay without the trouble, but with lows predicted for Tuesday nite around 28 to 30 (depending on which forecast one checks), why take risks? And since we have winter seasonal work (with red coats & white fur ho ho ho), it might not be as convenient to spend the time later, should a deeper freeze come our way.
Today’s the day!

Camper is at the dealership for warranty work (it's been there since the first week of September) and got a call from them last week asking me if I wanted them to winterize it as it's going to be in the low 20s this week (arctic blast thing coming). Since we are going to use it over Thanksgiving told them "no" and to make it ready for me to pick up today/tomorrow before the cold and I'll store it in my barn out of freezing temps. Not paying them to winterize it only to use it 2 weeks later.

Got a call today....some of the parts are in so they are taking it inside to work on it and hence no worry of freezing. WOOT!

Did mine yesterday. Put a cover on it that came with it. Get it out of storage in March hopefully.

Will you be at Mama Gertie's? Great place. We did it in winter one year and only one or two other campers were there that week.

We like Mama Gertie's too.
The 'hill' into the place looks daunting when you first get there but it sure is a nice place.
Great views on the upper level too.

Just got back from the Smoky Mts yesterday, just in time to park, drain and fill with antifreeze just as the rain moved in. 22F last night (ice and snow), mid 30s today, expecting 14-16F tonight...

We HOPED to get out again, but with cold temps moving in we winterized last weekend. Glad we did--it's been in the low 20s and teens the last couple of nights. I am SO ready for spring!! ;-)

We would love to camp up on the mountain at Mama Gertie’s. Due to the time of year and unpredictability of the weather, we chose to stay at the KOA East on the Swannanoa river. It is really close to the town of Black Mountain and Asheville is about 30 minutes away.

.

My winterizing is only draining the low points and hot water heater. Then I open all the cabinet and set out 2 1300watt heaters. We use ours through out the winter.

Winterized my motor home before the end of September, even though I continue using it.
I was caught by an early freeze a few years ago and it busted some couplings I found by the leaks.
I put the pink stuff into the reservoir to flush the toilet and carry a container of drinking water to make tea and coffee etc..
Still used the MH for a few trips, including some camping w/o any electricity.
I use the genny and the propane furnace until it's time for bed, then the down filled bag with a thermal fleece liner and a toque for my bald head.
Fire everything up in the morning, melt the ice in the water container's tap and make coffee and breakfast.
I'll have to stop now because the snow is getting deeper around here and getting stuck isn't worth the excitement of having to be dug out and towed.
I must say that humidity inside the unit does sometimes present a concern.

Especially so with two of us in a 20' trailer. I always bring along our 30 pint dehumidifier, great if you have electricity. Nice to be able to see out the windows, lol.
