Heat wave
Any one going out this weekend during these record temps? Here in St. Louis it was near 110F. Someone get me my jacket. Curious how various rigs handle the heat and how much of a performance drop off the modern a/c units have when the temps get above 95F.

I just got back from South Dakota on Wednesday temp. at Wall S.D. on Tuesday was 109. My A/C had trouble keeping up until night. didn't think at the time to start the engine on the rig and use both A/C's together.

I can't take 100+* in a RV even with A/C.
Last year I stayed at a new campground with a water play area during a heat wave. That area of the city lost power for almost a day and the water play area was dry because of the lack of power to the pumps.
I'm heading to the beach this year.

Headed home to Concord, NC from spending 10 days or so in Orlando. Should get there sometime around noon without problems. Tires all went from 61# to 69# and temp from 70° to 104°. Ambient was 94° towing according to the truck thermometer.

Being from PA you know what it's like there. First time we went to Gettysburg was in 94 with a pop up no A/C talk about suffering. Are you going to the reenactment at Gettysburg? or just vacationing?

Maybe you should head our way. Today was the first time this year that we had three successive days above 70 degrees. Sure, it's a bit dull and gray, but today was quite pleasantly sunny, with high alto-cirrus clouds that didn't really get in the way of the sunshine. The high in our neighborhood was 72F, since we're close to deep water glacial run-off. Our beach water temp rarely gets above 55 F, except in the close-in shallows, as the water is about 600 feet deep less than a mile off shore.
Sure beats the pizza oven temps the rest of the country is suffering through.

Heading to the mountains in the morning for a week. Forecast here (75 miles away) is 95+. Today it was 97 here - in the mountains? 90 and next week 82-85.
Have some bike riding planned (early AM), swimming most everyday, waterpark one day, white water rafting another day.
Shady campground so it's usually not too bad there. They have a lodge with a pool table and A/C if all else fails.
We use a 13k A/C for our living room in the house, well, most of the first floor. It won't make you shiver but makes 97 into 84. The camper is smaller so I expect it to do better with the same size A/C unit.
On the news this week they said typically we have 9 days a year above 90. Back in 88 we had 38. I was younger then...but had a second floor/attic of a house for an apt - no A/C at all. Had a pickup truck - no A/C. Worked as a mechanic in a corner gas station - no A/C. Seems I survived it. Will survive this too.
Would like some rain though, the yard is the driest I think I've ever seen it.

105-113 heat here in tx..... when we bought the new TT, dual 15k a/c AND high r value were a big part of the equation....there is no better way to unwind from a day in the excruciating heat than a cold beer in a cold TT.....even when the night time LOWS are in the upper 80s and humid.....

With the current heat wave and subsequent high road surface temperatures, I am wondering if there has been a rise in the number of RV tire failures.
I haven't seen any reported in this thread yet.

We actually don't have any firm reservations for camping in July and August. We were new to this last year and went out a few times and found ourselves driving around in the truck to stay cool. A/C would catch up at night but during the day, never got fully comfortable. If we see a break in the weather we will go out someplace local. Next planned trip is Mt. Rushmore the week of Labor Day.

I am interested in hearing how different rigs and their AC's handle the heat? Our cherokee grey wolf 28bh with a single 13.5k AC does great! Although its just parked in my driveway as we are waiting on baby #3 any day and can't camp until he/she shows up, with temps near 100' every day, we decided to turn on the AC. Just plugged into 20a, but it does very well with no shade at all. Inside stays at 76 and the AC cycles off.

We are the same way. Many years ago we learned that lesson well!! At least in the stick home I can clean out closets or get caught up on little things. Unless there is a break in the heat or we are at the lake with a shady campsite we don't make plans for July at all. August we will get out a little but will find shady campgrounds.
Just saw this morning that Missouri Conservation Dept placed a fire ban in all the state conservation areas for any type of woodfires. You can still use charcoal in a ring to cook with but that is it. Looks like the heat is here to stay for awile.
