Help!!! Were we suckered?

2 months ago we ordered a 25brds. At the time the dealer had 3 on order, and would have one of them made with what we wanted. They now have 2 of them and are saying ours isn't in and are trying to get us to take one of the ones they have, where is mine? Did it fall off the truck? they have us on the spot, they took our old trailer in trade and had us pay 1,000 down ( nonrefundable) on the ordered trailer. We are now in a bind since we want to leave on our trip in a couple of weeks, without a trailer old or new, any advice?

Go to New Paris, Indiana and look at the literal THOUSANDS of trailers sitting on acres and acres of land at several different transport companies. They're made, just can't get enough drivers to deliver them.

Just woke up from a nap. If I could live with one of the two I would take it but I would ask for a discount. Personally I would just wait until the trailer I ordered came in even if I had to stay in a motel. The dealer could have messed up and not ordered the one you wanted.

I would hold tough and keep pressure on the dealer (at least two calls a week and maybe a visit in person once in a while), make them do what you paid them to do. Just remember if you take something you really didn't want it will hang on your mind the whole time you own it, sometimes called regret, and the only one that will come out with a complete smile on their face is the dealer. I say this because I have been in a very similar situation and I did regret it after a year and ended selling the rv at a big loss to get what I really wanted. Or if the dealer refuses to return your deposit (sometimes they will) you could walk away and eat the 1000.00 and find another dealer that will do you right. Now some people will say WHAT!! walk away from a 1000.00,.....yes, wish I had, by doing what I did I walked away from about 10,000 on the sale of a one year old trailer. Whatever you do DON'T get in a hurry, Take your time, dot your I's and cross your T's, I know it's hard to do with anticipation of a new RV or in desperation of a planned trip, but you will be happier with yourself in the end, and that's what this lifestyle is all about, YOUR HAPPINESS.

By looking at my signature can you guess which trailer I'm referring to?

If you have one ordered you want I would wait. Is the upcoming trip more important than the many trips down the road. The dealer wants end of year sales if he knows you will wait he may pressure FR to deliver it. In the mean time look else where with your deal minus the $1000 deposit as your target. If you find a better deal take it.

How do you know the two that came in werent 'in the system' before the third that is likely your order?

Also, two months from order to delivery is cutting it close. Not sure I would have planned a trip without a firm delivery date.

I do agree with 5picker, two months is pretty close, it took three months and a week for my last one

I wouldn't plan a trip with a trailer I ordered until it was hooked to my truck and being towed home.

The "push" from the Dealer is more likely so he can reduce his inventory for year end. If it's financed on a flooring plan he has interest due. If he's paid for it he wants it off his books so his year end looks better to the bank he'll be borrowing money from for next years inventory.

The OP has done his part by putting down a non-refundable deposit. Now the Dealer needs to get his part done. Pester him for a delivery date often enough that he pesters the factory for a date.

Any possibility of dealer giving you a great discount and you go pick up the unit? By the time you get home you’ll know what needs fixed/adjusted/etc and get fixed before your trip. Even if it shows tomorrow you’ll be pretty lucky to get warranty stuff done in time if the forums are any indicator. As a couple of folks have said, it’s probably among the large number of those waiting for transport. Some of those things may or may not be under the dealers control-don’t know.

Well, compromise is important in many aspects of life - especially marriage. But in the OP’s situation, I’d wait it out. We missed an entire season when we sold our old Roo privately in May 2014 and searched for a replacement. Finally found our current TT (purchased used) in April the following year.

I would wait. I would also press the dealer for a comparable TT loaner for the upcoming trip. They probably won’t give you a new one but may well give you a newer used one.

Not getting it in time ruins one trip, settling for a different trailer on the lot may ruin all your trips.

If you have your deal in writing, listing the equipment you ordered, hold them to it. If you don't have specific items listed in writing, it may be a good idea to try and have items added to one they have at no cost to you. Slide toppers, second a/c, upgraded tires, etc.

Since they already have your trade in you are kind of stuck working with that dealer either taking one the have or waiting. As far as the $1000 dollar "non-refundable" deposit it may be refundable. I had one on order with a non-refundable deposit, the data kept slipping and I found the same model at another dealer and had no problem getting the deposit back, just asked.

In hind site I should have waited, about a week after I took delivery the 1st dealer had 3 of my model in stock, mine was probably one of them. You never know.

Do you know VIN number of trailer? If so, call manufacturer and ask status.
