HepvO waterless trap

I need a little help with the HepvO waterless trap, sink is draining slow and a leak has developed at the top threads from the elbow connecting the sink to the trap, the membrane appears to be swollen and discolored. I have zero experience with this trap an wondering if this is normal. You can't see it in the picture but membrane is completely swollen shut at about half the length of the trap.

With no head pressure it will appear to be closed, that's how it works. Can you remove the whole thing and run water through it?

Yes, I found out that you can over tighten the ring collar and pull it over the diaphragm housing - on the bright side I now have a clear understanding of the internals. A new trap is on order. Thanks for the quick response.
