Not naturally occurring where my house is, Beach is about 20 min away. Our neighborhood was built on old pig farms, our yard gets so mucky because about 6" down is all clay so the rain just saturates the top surface and cannot permeate downward.

Understand. Being a native of the Eastern Shore I sometimes assume everything east of Richmond is sandy. And, I keep forgetting just how big the corporate limits of Virginia Beach are.

rail road ties seem like over kill. Landscape timbers would do the job. Held mine down pounding 24 inch pieces of rebar through them. I did crushed concrete. If it wasnt under 2 feet of snow right now id post a pic

Ah i love the Eastern Shore! Yes Virginia Beach is fairly large area,I wish i had more of a sandy soil so i wouldnt have to contend with the muddy mess when its saturated.

Looks very nice! What are the tires sitting on? Looks like rubber mat of some type.

Definitely a nice setup. Was also curious about pads. Looks like HDPE wall scuff.

Simple, cheap door step rubber welcome matts from Walmart.

Nice for parking, and when the RV is gone it becomes a nice Japanese rock garden.

I also added bricks which shows where the tires need to end up.

Good idea, I have 14x14 pavers I park the wheels on but adding rubber on those would be nice to isolate the tires from the concrete.

That's another great idea, I think I'm going to implement that into mine as well before I add my top dress of stone.

Depending on how heavy the trailer is, you want a good base and get down below the soil to hardpack. If you don't in a few years you will have ruts and soil will start percolating up through the gravel with weeds. Oh, you will always get weeds though even with barrier, but soil percolating up means the weeds can get their roots down deep really quick and make them hard to remove.

I had a drive put in and they went down and removed at least a foot of top soil and laid down a bed of 4" stone, then topped it with 8" of crushed limestone and compacted it. Turns hard as cement when dry. The only time it will rut is if it is soaking wet and I move the trailer on it, so I don't move it if the drive is soaked like in early spring after a thaw, or if we had torrential downpours that leaves roads flooded.

I still get weeds though, they get on top and get down 2", so I spray killer twice a year to keep them from spreading. Then once a year I run a grader over it to churn up the top layer to remove the organics from the weeds. I don't use a border on it, just keep the grass trimmed as the drive is raised a couple inches above the soil.

Bhrava, Did they use a woven fabric between the soil and stone?

Yes, the weeds love Limestone though. I spray the drive with vegetation killer 3 times a year to keep them down. Then about every other year I use a landplane to tear up and mix the top layers. I have 2 drives, one to the house which is long and wide and one almost to the barn that is long and straight.

Weed fabric is a sales tool, no such thing, weeds will grow anywhere. Weed control in gravel is always needed. The fabric is to separate and support the stone. I use https://www.erosioncontrol-products....ilefabric.html Your drive is much more than needed. You likely could have done that area in concrete for the same cost of the way you did the gravel. Was that area built as permeable to meet local code?

Yes the fabric is a barrier to prevent percolation and nothing more. Concrete would have been more than triple the price for what I had done. One new drive by the barn and refinish and widen the main drive for $3500. Concrete would have cost $13,000 or more.

I would run several uncommitted conduits and PVC water pipe under the concrete. Remember to bury them with soft sand before pouring the concrete.

My only suggestion is to put something under the tires. I use treated 2X10s with a rubber mat secured to the top.

Places like Tractor Supply and Rural King sell horse stall mats that are fairly thick and not very expensive.
