Hope this doesn't happen to ANYONE!

Here is the result of the "cheesecake" I was baking for a potluck dinner. With less than 10 minutes remaining, the Pyrex pan exploded in the oven. What a mess! No dessert from our 5'er that night!

That's not good. I had a similar thing happen with a pizza stone I used to dissipate the heat.

Pyrex isn't what it used to be - at least the US manufactured Pyrex:

RalphieAdie,
I am glad to hear that you and yours were not injured when that happened.
Was the dish damaged before cooking or was it the heat from the oven.
Has anyone else used Pyrex in their ovens?
Sorry about the mess though!

Thanks. To my knowledge, the dish was not damaged in anyway, this wasn't the first time I've used this particular pan.

As soon as I heard the "explosion" I knew immediately what happened and shut the oven and pilot off. Then it was a waiting game till everything cooled down enough to spend an hour cleaning up the mess.

From the Pyrex website Adrienne.

Have a lot of consumers experienced unexpected breakage?
The number of consumers who have reported that their Pyrex glassware broke unexpectedly is extremely small compared to the billions of pieces of Pyrex glassware safely and reliably used in American kitchens for generations. The safety of consumers is our highest priority and we are committed to minimizing breakage of any kind. As part of our ongoing quality assurance procedures, we continually review and enhance our Safety and Usage instructions which are provided with all Pyrex glass bakeware.

I thought it was interesting that three of the FAQs deal with sudden breakage.

Bummer. That looked like a really good cheesecake. If I had my choice, I'd use a convection oven rather than the small gas one...... just sayin...... a good cheesecake is a hard thing to lose.....

He was soooo disappointed. He'd been waiting all week. Oh well, maybe he'll get it made for the Branson Rally Potluck, we'll see!

I actually just read a blog post the other day from someone who was baking brownies (in her home conventional oven) and her Pyrex exploded! Crazy.

Was it cold when you put it in the oven? I have heard of that happening when taken a frozen casserole and putting it in a hot oven. The rapidly thawing food expands and blows the dish apart.

Nope, made from scratch, at room temperature. It had been baking for about 30 minutes.

We all have accidents & we'll use it as a lesson learned.

Using stoneware baking dishes are best for baking in an RV propane oven. I purchased mine at Pampered Chef. What helps out even more is placing a baking stone in the oven to disperse the heat evenly.

Clicking on the link below can give you more info when baking with an RV propane oven--

Our pizza stone broke as well, the 2608ws has the larger over. Maybe this will help in keeping things a little further away from the heat source.
