A Dometic DM2652 fridge uses 1500 BTU/hr on LP gas. An AC unit runs 13,500 or 15,000 BTU/hr depending on which size you have. So a 15,000 BTU AC unit is 10 times larger than a fridge. Imagine the size of the absorption unit it would take to run a 15,000 BTU/hr AC unit.

And the amount of LP gas you'd use: 1 lb of propane is 21,600 BTU's, so you'd use a lb of propane every ~1.5 hrs.

And notice that a number of RV fridges are starting to go to 12VDC compressor units.

I have a toy hauler that I purchased solely because I want a built-in generator. I don't do much boondocking for long periods, but I go hither and yon and spend nights at Walmart's, Costco's, Sam's and Rest Areas. I want my generator so I can run my air or micro or ???
How hard would it be to put in a 5 or 10 gal gas tank and secure a generator to the trailer? I know it can be done as I said, I have a toy hauler with a built-in generator. I absolutely love not having to go outside to start it or stop it, nor do I have to pour gas in it.
Seems on the stupid side not to make them part of every trailer. Everyone one I speak with said they wished they had a generator for their trailer.

Be safe!
Gail
Well at least in my state they are only allowed until 10pm.....quit timr

Just imagine if they did have absorption AC's...............talk about some big fires...............worrying about a fridge becoming a inferno is enough

Dealer told me they are all switching over to 12V Fridges. We almost didn't get ours because of that but we don't do much dry camping..... And I get another toy to play with... Solar!!!! 😁

In all honesty I wouldn't want a absorption fridge unless it had the "Amish Fridge" conversion. I've seen too many people that burned to death...........I still just don't trust the absorption fridges.
