We are retired so weekend camping is generally three or four days. We have gone as far as 300 miles in that time frame. That being said more times than not it's about 200 miles. We can do this almost year round from central Texas. Part of our camping enjoyment is the ride to and from the camping area. Our longest trip was just over 6000 miles in seven weeks, loved every minute of it.

Out here in the southwest, I don't think there is any desirable camping destination closer than 2 hours
But now that we are retired, we rarely stay anywhere less than a week.

My Wife and I were just talking about this last night while planning a couple trips and our thoughts were to stick around the 1.5 hour mark (give or take). Luckily we have a lot of camp grounds within those driving distances. Places that we stay from say Thursday-Monday we'll go 3 hours or so.

Travel Distances
Our "week end" trips are always 3 days, so tis may not apply, but generally, we keep it around 200 miles, which equates to 4 hours.

We do 2-4 hours for weekend trip. I leave work early and work remote using Verizon hot spot while my husband drives to campground. He doesn’t work outside the home so his schedule is very flexible.

Weekends are why we have an A-frame. For a 3 day weekend, we have driven as much as 350 miles each way, leaving at 5AM on Saturday morning, and returning at dusk on Monday evening. Or even better, leave Friday AM and return Sunday PM.
We like to arrive about 2PM, set up takes 30 minutes (15 minutes for the EZ-up over the picnic table and unpacking stove and cooking stuff). That gives us a few hours to sight see, or just relax, and then cook dinner. Sunday is for whatever activity we chose the location for - touristing, sight-seeing, hiking, boating, etc. Monday is a leisurely breakfast, tear-down (again less than 30 minutes), drive home.
A-frame stores in the garage, so we can decide to go camping on Friday night, get food and pack clothes, and go early Sat morning. During the week, after returning, we prepare the A-frame for next trip - restock paper products, wash, clean, and the like.
We have done 3 day trips to Lincoln, Nebraska for football games, to Ridgway, CO for Telluride Film Festival, to Rocky Mountain National Park to see wildlife, to Walsenberg, CO for the heck of it. We have done 2 days of traveling each way to Waco, TX, stopping at Palo Duro Canyon State Park (approx. 7.5 hrs drive) overnight. We did make a 4 day trip to the Black Hills camping at Custer State Park (7 hrs), just because there was so much to do.
just our camping style, your's may differ

Same here: rarely less than a week, and we try to do it once a month year-round. Our favorite place is about 2.5 hours away.

...about 5 hours
but,
5 hours in a tow vehicle might be a 'little' different than 5 in a motorhome...
for various reasons - bathroom onboard, food onboard, tv onboard, etc : )

I tow a 22’ travel trailer ,4500 lbs, and will travel up to 6 hrs. But that is staying up to 1 week at the camp site. If going for just a weekend, probably no more than 3 hours

Just booked first reservation of the year at Tetilla Peak, Cochiti Lake USACE CG. 51 miles from storage. Only other weekend trip last year was to Bayfield, CO, which was @ 220 miles.
I got every other Friday off, so a 3-day weekend every 2 weeks is awesome sauce.
Safe and happy travels.

Wish we could. I can get off whenever but she works at a bank and it's not an option for her.
The 5 o'clock departure will hurt. We can leave at 5 sharp. I get everything ready 99% the day before, raise the tongue jack, pull the power cord, and quick glance inside we are gone. I am sure this will be a learning experience for both of us....I have set up with the sun going down but not 100% dark. We will have to make due.
Sad part is we have a 9 night trip scheduled over the week of the 4th an hour from home, wish we could swap!

A really good flashlight is mandatory.
By "good" I mean size large not some HD
AA powered LED but more like the one that you use your 18v drill battery on.
And consider letting your wife back in
while YOU walk along side her side of the truck and talk her into the site.
Tell her exactly what to do-- come on back, a little left, more left, now back to center, now right, keep it coming.... etc she can be your perfect voice activated remote control if you let her!
It works great for us and we've been camping nearly 16 years.

I heard long ago that to transition from the work week to the weekend took at least a 90 minute drive. I realize that could be 10 miles in some areas.

DH and I feel the same. All of our weekend trips have been within a 1.5 hour ride, with the exception of three nights, which are up to three hours from home. We like spending weekends 14 miles from home sometimes, which is very nice.

Typically, we try to keep weekend trips to no more than 1.5 hours away; however, occasionally, we will go up to 3 hours away on a weekend. To us, the weekends are for relaxation from the busy work weeks and the less time on the road, the better. Some of our best campouts have been only 30 minutes from home.
