How to fill 30lb propane tanks
This is the first time that I have a fifth wheel with 30lb tanks and I am wondering how you get them filled. The 20lb tanks were no problem taking them off and bringing them to get filled, but there is no way that I am going to bring the 30lb to get filled as I won't be able to handle them full.
Do most of you get them filled on site from a mobile or what?
Thanks
Joe

My 30 lb. tanks weigh 24 lbs. empty, and 54 lbs. full.....still doable to remove and install, but those puppies seem to be getting heavier as I age.

I just pull them out because every place I have been will not fill them in the trailer.
On mine I undo the two metal straps turn off the tank valve and then lift it enough to slide it out bottom first.

Between the small compartment door and the metal band-with-the-wingnut arrangement that secures the tanks... yeah, filling up my 5ver 30 lb tanks can be a challenge. I might need to modify the metal band arrangement at some point to make it a bit easier.
But I take them out and down the road to an LP dealer to get them filled. I have not asked about the cost of having one of his trucks come out to do the job.
Might be worth $10 to the teenager across the street to help you with them?

The correct way to fill those tanks is to weigh them . no dealer will fill them on the 5r .Radio had a good idea about the boy next door .

To make it easier to remove the 30# tanks, I removed the straps , bolts and wing nuts and made plywood cups and bolted the plywood cups to the steel platform in the 2 compartments. Doesn't make lifting them any easier, but it sure makes it faster than messing with the straps when removing or replacing them.

Mobile trucks normally only fill MH permanently installed tanks....They are awkward to handle for some people..It does not hurt to ask for help......Some refill stations weigh the tanks to full others fill by gallons pumped......Most tanks today have an auto shut off valve

I remove the tank and take it to have it filled. Yep I'm not young any more but I can still do it. Only place that had Mobil LP is when we attend NASCAR races. Later RJD

All tanks have the ''auto shut off'', dealers won't fill any that do not have that feature.
LPG #4.2 lbs per gal.

We recently purchased a new Rockwood that came with 30# tanks. My DH decided to have the dealer swap them out for 20#ers & he's glad he did. We don't often dry camp, so they should last us the season of probably 6 weeks of camping.

Alot of campgrounds will fill, some will have a mobile service come to campground, I think camper world will fill. I have a flying j app it will tell you what stations have LP and dump stations. When you get the loyalty Card you get discount on gas.

From my experiences Mobile LP deliveries require a 100 LB minimum, otherwise it is pull bottle or take trailer to supplier.

I don't believe 30 lb tanks can be filled in the compartment and as a matter of fact I would bet on it. They have to be weighed. I'm pushing 70 years old, have 2 herniated discs in my lower back and I can still get them out after undoing the wing nut, etc. As my physio says to me, "get some young person to help you". I am stubborn that way and the take medication to alleviate the pain...a few dark, 150 proof, rums. Also good for scurvy, beaver fever and an assortment of other things. Good luck with whatever you do.

"Beaver fever" - is that just a Canadian ailment?

Nope, it's a real quick weight loss diet. I dropped 20 lbs in 12 days. It's a parasite in water called Giardisis or spelling to that effect. My wife gave me 3 rum and cokes a day to combat it, as we were in the Rocky Mountains dry camping for 3 weeks. I did get over it naturally but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. My whole body was shaking. As I said I'm kind of stubborn. I was able to get into clothes I hadn't been able to fit into in many years tho',
