I swear I was listening to the Weather Channel a while back and heard the presenter say "unfortunately the system will be experiencing unfavorable conditions for development". Freudian slip if I ever heard one.

From the Weather Channel report this morning even several miles inland could have massive storm surge. This would take truck and trailer away.

It’s so hard to see what tomorrow holds, but I got scared. In hindsight I should not have moved the camper. Oh well maybe the electric will not be off long when it goes out. Oh well maybe I’ll get to spend a few days in Pigeon Forge. Now that’s a silver lining

Should be okay at Pigeon Forge. Only tropical depression effects forecast for Sunday.

I think it was the correct decision. I have lived in the Carolinas for over 45 years and have been in several major hurricanes, even if nothing happens at home you are still ahead of the curve. If you hadn't moved it and something happened you would be unhappy with yourself.

Yes, hurricanes are boring, especially once you loose power. You can’t know or see what’s going on anywhere else unless you have a battery powered radio, etc.

Whole house generators are great to have when the weather turns rough, mine is working away right now.

Agree. However we are in WA so if the power in Durham, NC goes out the generator will run unattended. Since it runs on natural gas it will keep on running. Hopefully my son in law will be able to go over there and check on it.

Well maybe not if you have a required transfer switch, when the power is back up it should shut off, this is code in Durham County. If you had a licensed contractor put it in and had a permit you would have that.

Installed by a licensed electrical and all up to code. The concern is if power is out for several days. It would run 24/7.

Weather update:
We are on the north side of Fort Bragg, NC. So far we have had 40 mph winds with a few gusts above 50 mph, pushing close to 2" of rain already. Thankfully this beast turned south and weakened. So far our power has stayed on, but I have hedged my bets. RV is parked on the lee side of the house with full water, fuel and LP tanks. The house generator is fueled and ready if needed. We don't have the fancy pants whole house generator... yet.

I don't mean to make light of this and I'm thankful its been easy here.
But this "storm of the century" and the "1000 year rain" our governor spoke of is turning into less than Hurricane Matthew just two years ago.
Again, I feel for those impacted the worst but to watch the media constantly trying to make this an Armageddon, its ridiculous. Half the water rescues they've shown on TV could have been done with my wife's Kia. People in shoe-deep water being loaded into the back of military trucks. Lots of resources and manpower so people don't get their feet wet.
And just FYI, I'm a full-time firefighter so I do have a little bit of credibility in what I'm talking about. And I'm just pointing out.

Yeah, but don't you send an engine company to every fire alarm, even though 90% are false alarms? Or an engine, rescue, and ambulance to an auto accident that's probably just a fender bender? Way better to go in heavy and not need the resources than the other way around.
