I think my 100# black lab is my "357" ace in the hole.

If that doesn't work my 12# shih szu "pellet" gun surely will!

I used to have a 135lb Rot/lab mix. Scared most people who initially saw his size and heard him grunt when he breathed but he was the biggest teddy bear.

My 15 lb mini aussie, thats another story! He will bite the nuts off any one who comes near him he does not trust, and he has an incredible intuition.

A perfect example of why a non-lethal, but socially acceptable, confrontation ending alternative is a must for folks who camp, travel extensively, and stay in unfamiliar places whose safety has to be judged on the fly as you pull in.

Thank you all for the great answers. Him being ex military and me being a good army spouse, we are well trained in weapons. I do agree with the light bird shot type ammo. That makes more sense. So does the pump action sound. And thank you for the book reference. I always like having written laws in front of me.

Oh and using my 45 lb border collie as a weapon.....hahahahahahahahaha. Unless they are the wicked witch of the west and melt with water when she pees on them while rushing to escape, I am out of luck.

after discussion with my husband, because I am staying at military bases, I am going to give further thought to the tasers. And I like the wasp spray as well. No to the cattle prod. Been hit with one of those. Took weeks to heal the burn. Kind of like the time some farm boys got my cityboy brother to pee on an electric fence. Enough said.

Thank you again though. This has been a very thoughtful discussion.
