I was “That guy”
Don’t be me. I saw a man and his wife pulling out in a fifth wheel at Huntington Beach State Park this weekend. He clearly had it under control. I decided it’d be good to let him know all was clear. He rolled down his window and politely (yes politely) told me he had things under control. I actually knew he knew. I was “That guy.” Don’t be me, y’all.

I'm not sure what you're saying... it sounds like it was a polite exchange?

The main thing I miss about living down South. People go out of their way to be helpful.

Can't tell you the number of times I flagged down a camper pulling out of the campground with an antenna still up, landing gear not fully retracted, cargo door loose, and even once with the steps still down.
Not once did I get anything but a nod when they got a once over and a thumbs up.

I don’t know about that. When I told that guy in the fancy European sports car that his signal lights didn’t work, he wasn’t too happy 🤣🤣

It was a polite exchange. Brief, too. But deep down I knew he didn’t need help. I don’t know, maybe I’m being too hard on myself. Thanks, y’all!

Sometimes just having you're wife give you directions is enough. You may not welcome or need additional advice.

Wow, if you did that, you lose your "stupid camper card" like the one in my wallet!

I did get to see a motorhome just leaving the campground with the awning fully extended, we were honking the horn and waving as we were behind them till they noticed us it was to late a tree bent the awning. Enough to make you sick. I always appreciate a helpful camper!

This reminds me of the time I was pulling out of a site after packing up as usual. A guy I had spent a fair amount of time joking around with earlier that day tried to tell me my slide was out. I absolutely knew I closed all slides as I clearly remembered doing so, so I assumed he was joking again. I told him it was on purpose because my brakes didn't work very well and I wanted the additional wind resistance. He said uhhh OK. Luckily as I pulled around the loop to exit, a friend that was also camping there caught me and said the slide was out. Turned out that after I had closed it for good, my wife needed something and opened the slide but forgot to close it. It's a wardrobe slide on the passenger side that can't be seen in the mirrors. Sometimes those who "have it under control" still need help. I can't imagine what that guy thinks to this day.

I always give them a big smile and wave. I appreciate true kindness.
Even when I maybe did something(?) they didn't like and they're giving me a one finger salute.
That smile comes especially easy when I think how frustrating it must be for a true jerk... when some "dumb-A" seems to mistake a 'salute' for a friendly gesture and cheerfully waves back... then looks away.
Leaves 'em with that total "Failure-to-Communicate" backfire feeling.

Helping hand.
My wife and I double and triple check the rig and each other’s tasks before we roll from a site. If someone wants to lend a helping hand I say Bring It....peace of mind.

OK, y’all. I’m feeling much better about being “that guy” now. As for being from the South and in the South, I’ve found Yankees to be pretty dang nice, too. My wife is a Damn Yankee. (I call her that with the utmost love and affection. I’m glad she came down and never moved back.) Everyone I encounter in Upstate NY when we visit seems very friendly. One of the friendliest is a retired detective from Queens. Seriously.
Anyway, I’m gonna continue being me. Not being myself never works out very well anyway.
Thanks!
