We store our motorhome indoors, at home. There is no way I’m backing it out into the snow and ice in middle of winter to run the generator.
I realize Cummins/Onan advises running the generator periodically. However, they also have an alternate procedure for longer term storage that does not involve periodic running. So, I do my own thing. I run the genny carburetor out of gas after the last use (actually after every trip/campout). We seldom even use the generator on every outing, so when we need the genny again, which may be as long as 6 months later, it works fine, no problems ever. I have done it this way since 1998, so I’m not buying in to the advice that it absolutely needs to be run every month or so.
As for the chassis engine, leave it alone during storage unless you want to go out and drive around for a half hour to get it warmed up.
The ideal solution may be to install exhaust evacuation hoses in my barn to connect to the tail pipes and blow the exhaust to the exterior with some type of blower system, but I’m not going to go to the trouble of doing that.
